Flight with Nvidia Inspector

Featured Replies

I have not seen much talk in this forum since release, of anyone using their graphics card drivers, specifically through Nvidia Inspector, to control things in Flight like AA and AS, rather than letting the Flight program handle those.Obviously with FSX, there is much tweaking one can and should do, to get the best appearance and performance, and reduce or eliminate stuttering. And the Nvidia Inspector program is a great tool to use, for controlling the graphics card drivers for these things. Very popular to use for FSX.I am sure the reason there is not much discussion, is Flight just performs so well right out of the box - er, digital download I guess I should say. Seriously with my system, I have everything set high as it will go, and the performance is stunning. Graphics beautiful. Not sure I need anything to look better. But I have thought of maybe playing around with Inspector and seeing what it might do.Anyone else try this yet, any thoughts on it? Is it better to just go with what is working so well now?

Don't need it, and don't want it. Perfect out of the box!Stan

I don't have Nvidia but I have AMD cards (2 6950 xfire) and tried forcing graphics settings through catalyst control center but couldn't get it to work for Flight. I was however able to force xfire support but it is no better than running it from one card. It would be nice if I could use both of my cards for maximum performance because if I have scenery density and scenery detail both on max I get low fps. Having max on one or the other I get good playable fps though.

Yeah I suspect running like it is by default is probably best - I may fly more rather than play around with Inspector.I mean mine looks fantastic as it is really - ha, guess I am just so used to tweaking to get that little extra out in FSX, it feels kinda odd to just fly !Kinda cool really,

Hello again Dburne :)I am using Nvidia Inspector all the time, not just for flight but for BF3, Civilization 5, etc. I personally love crisp textures so i crank up anisotropic filtering to 16x and also antialiasing to 4xMS (multisampling). I also limited the number of frames to 60 cuz i don't need more and it gives smoother feel cuz it keeps fps steady. However, it does drop below 60 unfortunately but still floats perfectly smooth, so i am happy. I have everything on max except autogen density (don't feel like sacrificing fps plus it draws sooo many trees so i don't even like it :) ).Feel free to experiment with it, why not. You have nothing to lose :)Cheers

I tried it - I have a GTX560Ti card and figured the default settings in Flight were good - but more is better - so I dialed in the MS Flight profile and upped the AA and AF settings...there was virtually no improvement BUT I got a couple of thermal shut downs...card temp spiked...so I figured there must be a conflict.reset nVidia Inspector to default with no overrides - and my troubles went away. Now I didnt do any fiddling back and forth with the nVidia inspector settings vs Flights ingame graphic settings (like you have to do with FSX) so maybe there was a way to make it work...but I cannot afforda new card right now so I quickly surrendered

Hi Eevun!Glad to see you are having fun! Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Yikes! Thanks for the feedback heywooood,Should I decide to give it a try, I will be sure and run windowed mode first so I can keep an eye on my gpu temps.Btw, I just got a new GTX 560 Ti myself, have not installed it yet though and probably won't till later in the week. Thanks again,

I also gave nVidia inspector a try (after posting at least twice about it here without any reply) but I couldn't let it make a difference in MS Flight. I tried various settings, but MS Flight kept looking the same. At a certain moment I deselected the relevant options in MS Flight to see if forcing things in Inspector would work, but it didn't. Nothing seemed to improve MS Flight. Anisotropic filtering looked the same no matter what and so did FSAA.I agree that Flight is great out of the digital box, but I do have some shimmering trees here and there and I would really like to get rid of them, but I can't... I have a GTX580 btw.

That's exactly my problem although I only have a 9800 GTX which is not as powerful as your card. I'm extremely pleased with the superb graphics except for shimmering of trees etc. If you find a solution I would be grateful if you would share it with us all.

I guess it is challenging to try to improve the graphics on something that is already this good out the chute.I am sure I have the same simmering trees as you guys, but I never really notice them - probably due to my aging eyesight...

Seems to be a common issue with everyone running SLI or Xfire. I am running GTX570s in SLI and have yet to load the cards past 80% but FPS are low/stutters.... Hopefully we will see a fix from MS soon.

Ya know I love building and upgrading pc's, almost as much as I love the flight sim hobby, but SLI for whatever reason is one area that has never really gotten my attention and I have never really had a strong desire to do it. I am sure there are games - er sims - out there that really take advantage of that and running two, or more cards, in SLI really benefits. I however am a big believer in the KISS principable , and really like keeping it as simple as I can.Heck I have a hard enough time justifying in my mind the expense of a decent graphics card and even then I try to stay at least a model or two below the top end, if not a generation behind, on my graphics card. Spending 500 bucks plus on a graphics card - ain't no way for me, not for something I know I will upgrade in a year maybe, no longer than 2 years. And the thought of buying two of them, yegads!
