March 21, 201214 yr Just wanted to get some feedback before I hit the purchase button on a new FSX rig. Thanks for the advice and feedback!Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost)G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F240GBGT-BK 2.5" 240GB SATA III ASUS P8P67 DELUXE (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATXEVGA 01G-P3-1556-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 1GB 192-bit GDDR5LW
March 21, 201214 yr Perhaps consider the Gen3 P8Z68 Deluxe instead - full IB support and PCIe3 gives it a bit more scope for future upgrades and higher performance.Budget permitting, I would also think about the GTX 560 Ti over the 550 for general usage.Of course, if you can sit tight for a little longer, you could go straight to a new Ivy Bridge CPU and have done with it - depends how much of a hurry you are in! Cheers! Iain
March 21, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the reply.... I guess we are close enough to wait and would probably make the most sense. I have been limping along on a older system, but I do want to get the best bang for the buck. Thanks Again,LW
March 21, 201214 yr Well I am sure that others will be along shortly with different opinions, so don't treat mine as gospel!:DThe NVIDIA 6xx series will be around soon too - you may be able to get the 650/660 Ti equivalent within budget if you are waiting.Nothing is ever future proof and you can end up waiting forever if you don't bite the bullet at some point, but it does seem we are very near the new chips now. Of course you may find you can get your current spec at a good discount once the new stuff hits the shelves!...to add; you haven't got a CPU cooler on there either...if you are planning on OCing you would want something more than the stock one. Cheers! Iain
March 21, 201214 yr ASUS P8P67 DELUXE (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATXGo for THIS motherboard. It will give you PCIe3 AND Ivy Bridge compatibility.
March 21, 201214 yr LWAlso go for the i7 2600K "K" variant (for overclocking) and make sure your mobo is an ATX size otherwise I support the above. You could wait for IB but this will be a new cpu system and could take a couple of months to mature if any issues, as they did in SB, arise.PeterH
March 21, 201214 yr Also go for the i7 2600K "K" variant (for overclocking) and make sure your mobo is an ATX size otherwise I support the above.I think this one needs highlighting. The K version CPU is a must-have--the non-K version of the CPU cannot be overclocked. March 21, 201214 yr Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost)Just pay some extra bucks and go for a better OC'ing chip. THIS 2700K will run you a little extra $$ BUT, the OC potential is much much greater.
