April 3, 201214 yr I'm in need of some major help here. Re-installed my Windows7 64 bit system with FSX and find I am not able to save any control settings. Whenever I re-boot FSX, it erases everything I had set for my controls and keyboard assignments. Also, when I've completed a mission it shows the check mark like it's been accomplished but when I re-boot FSX, it's all erased. (When I say re-boot I mean just FSX and not the computer.) Microsoft was no help and just added to my frustration. I searched and was unable to find a solution to the problem. April 4, 201214 yr How do you "re-boot" FSX? Do you exit the program and start it normally? Check the Username>AppData>Roaming>Microsoft>FSX>Controls folder for a Standard.XML file with your controls selections. Art
April 4, 201214 yr Author Art, sorry, I should have just said restart FSX. Once I close the program and restart it, all is gone. I have gone into the Standard.xml file and tried to save it under a differant name with FSX running. Then rename it to the original name before opening up FSX again but it would not take. It always would revert back to the original setup. I've been told that it's supposed to change the file when FSX closes. April 4, 201214 yr Do you still have UAC turned on? If so - turn it off - the slider all the way to the bottom. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
April 4, 201214 yr Author Bob, not sure what the heck is going on here. I am the only one using this computer and have never gotten any notification of not having permission etc.. Paul, I have UAC on "Never Notify". This was a dead end post I had posted at Flightsim.com about halfway through: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?228006-After-market-controls-collective-etc-are-not-remembered-when-saved-New-member It might give a little insight as to what I've tried thus far. April 4, 201214 yr The controls are saved at C:\Users\Goatman24\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls in the Standard.xml file. Maybe check if you have permission to write into that folder. Seems like FSX doesn't when it doesn't alter the file itself and always comes up with the default settings. Just guessing though.
April 4, 201214 yr This is certainly a first, as I do not remember this ever being posted. Just to be on the safe side just right click on the folder and assign "Everybody" full permissions and see if this solves the problem. Regards Bob Officially retired
April 4, 201214 yr Author It's checked all the way down under "Allow" for Full control, Modify, Read & execute, List folder contents, Read and Write. Was born on the Northcoast, where they coined the phrase that they still call Rock-n-Roll! Mitch Collins
April 4, 201214 yr You need to call for an exorcism :LMAO: Can you edit that file? If so, I have not clue, but if it turns out it states "read only" then you can change that. This is just really strange. Bob Officially retired
April 4, 201214 yr Author Bob, yes I believe I can edit the file if I knew what or how to edit. Weather it stays after coming back into FSX might be another story. I don't know. If I knew someone that is knowledgable enough to write these files I suppose we could modify the existing file. Of course, my saved missions problem is another story but I could live with that. I don't know what has gotten mixed up. Like I said above. This is a fairly new installation albeit I have added all my add-ons and tweaks to get it this far. April 4, 201214 yr Ya - that is "System" permissions all the way down. The owner is who counts... "Advanced" button - should either be Administrators - or you. If I ever have a doubt - I make me the owner. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
April 4, 201214 yr Author Paul, each setting (System, Mitch and Administrators) all have full permission. It takes quite a bit of time to go through all of the Buttons & Keyboard settings then Controller settings and delete all of the TQ6 and Saitek Trim Wheel assignments. Even then, I still have to make at least one more pass because some get added before I get out of there. April 4, 201214 yr Maybe the file is corrupt. Why don't you rename the file. Add a dot the end of the file then add "passive" or "temp". Then run FSX and see if it recreates it. I am running out of ideas. It seems you have permission so the only thing left is an issue with FSX or the file is corrupt. Bob Officially retired
April 4, 201214 yr Author Actually, I did save the file with FSX running under a different name. Then, came back in after a re-start and deleted the original (After making a back-up) and changed the name of the one I had under a different name to the Standard.xml . It would always revert to the default. Mitch Edit: I'm going to delete the existing file and try to run it and see what happens. That might be a good idea about it recreating the file. I'll let you know what happens in a few. No such luck. All the unwanted assignments just keep on coming back.
