Looking for a GPS display that will work on a networked computer

That was self built. I think he summed up the parts at around 500 pounds. I think I'm a fan of the Emuteq so far. No building, just buying and then plug and play. Should work on all planes the RXP units can drive.

If I had the money I would get it. I am trying to retire and buy my class A diesel Motor Home, so I have to watch my spending. I will also need to customize the MotorHome to insure I can setup my FlightSim too. That way, the wife can drive sometimes and I can either take a nap or Fly the sim

Nice plans, Bob. So that motor home would receive at least two cockpits. One for driving, one for flying. I wonder if I ever saw flight sim cockpit pictures of an installation in a motor home.

LOL, yes indeed. Some of these Motor Homes are really nice. Also, I need a place for my laser engraver, so the mods to this Motor Home will be costly I am sure. But then again, I could just take the whole dining room area which slides out. I will have to pass that by you know who. I will get back to you on that one Nail%20Biting.gif

Once complete I will post the pics. Will have satellite too!

Sounds like you're trying to compete with that private A380 somebody has ordered. Awaiting pictures. B)

Well it won't seat 800+ plus, but plenty of room for 2 and our beloved little Corgi Batting%20Eyelashes.gif

Talk to you later... Thanks again for your help Bud!

Ok here is what I know now. They are short on answers. Almost like pulling teeth.

It is a proprietary module from what I gather i.e. no FSUIPC nor Simconnect. It is also a hugh resource hog, as he stated it should not be used with complex aircraft. He mentioned the F1 Mustang. This is not because the module cannot be made to work with the Mustang, but because their software is resource intensive. I sent another email to see if this was true even if installed on a networked computer. If it is still a resource hog when installed on the network, then I am not interested. Way to much overhead it seems. Again, I sent another email and hopefully they will answer soon. Again, they don't seem to interested. I asked if they had a demo LOL. They do have a 30 day money back guarantee less shipping within 30 days.

30 day money back on that one too? Sounds good. That's some 250 bucks, right?

I wonder how that thing works. Maybe like Aivlasoft EFB. You have a small server app, runs on the sim PC, and a client with the actual graphics and things. That one takes more resources, but can be run on a networked PC, therefore eating resources somewhere else.

Would mean that your network setup only receives a light load due to the server app. Just guessing though.

Yea... assuming a network set up..what kind of PC is required for the client. The non FSX PC. Would a core 2 Duo be sufficient.

Hey Guys,

Ok, got the email and putting this on a network he said "should eliminate the resource issue". Followed by "We have a 30 day money back policy". One thing I forgot to ask is if the GPS display can be resized. This is important to me. If I want to make it as large as the monitor, that would be great :Nerd: I will ask him that and post again. I will check the specs for you Manny.

CoolIP, I will also see if I can get any info on the comm software.

Well, I will try to say this gently.......Can you say "SimConnect" I know you can. Oh well. Not a deal breaker for me though.

The GPS PFD, MFD, and Audio panel displays are in seperate windows, so you can resize it to your liking.

The specs stated min hardware as Core Duo with a 1gb graphics card. I would think on a network that you could get by with a lesser video card. It may be though that with all the windows open, it may require 1gb, but I am guessing. I am also assuming that you can close and open the GPS, PFD, MFD and Audio panel at will, which would be nice too if you just did not have a need for one or the others.

I think I will jump, but I will have to wait a few weeks to earn some money, unless of course everyone from Avsim orders something from my website LOL.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I will get back with Jeff @ flight1.

I think I'll save some money for that external GNS530. Well, not really, I already have spent so much on software and if I start with just one extra hardware device, this will lead to no good (cheap) end. But reading about those extra bits is interesting, so maybe post your impression when you have the extra G1000 soft running.

I'll stick to the ones in the Mustang or C182.

The reason I want "something" other than what the aircraft offers, is because it is cumbersome for me even with TrackIR to move through the pages etc. Many seem to do fine with this but I am just one that needs something different. Having an external piece of hardware would be the cat's meow, but also having one on a 2nd monitor allowing me to resize would be the 2nd choice. I do own the Saitek panels and they have been an incredible addition. I wish they would make a GPS. The Saitek panels are not cheap i.e. $150 or so per panel, but they are durable and reliable. I will keep you posted on what I do and you do the same.

From their site, it looks like Sim Connect. I came to post that...but it looks like Bob is on top of this.

:)

BTW... The pricing for their software is, the Student Version of the G1000 is $250. If we have to build a cockpit (G1000 without the Bezel), its an additional $250 (for the plug in). We would then need both. I have posted a question there asking them if there is an SDK to assign hw rotary knobs and switches to the G1000.

IF we run this on a remote PC, how would we use FSUPIC to assign it to the hardware on the remote PC? OR do we assign it to the fSUPIC on the FSX PC and the remote G1000 would just act as output? i.e. assuming FSUPIC could be used for this.. not sure how that would work

Manny

I still don't get why Goflight wouldn't build the hw for this. or atleast gives us a kit (with a Bill of MAterial BOM and a Routing sheet) that we could then use. Instead of us trying to do from scratch. I was looking at that leobodnar website and 1 pc of dual rotary switch costs like Pounds 20, almost $40

This could get real expensive even if you are self building it.

Expensive is the word on every home flight sim hardware attempt. Don't read my texts the wrong way, guys, I'm as amazed as you are by such items. The prices and the 'chain of events' are holding me back, nothing more.

On a side topic. I couldn't find much, if any, reports on the F1 student G1000. So if Bob gets that one, we may have a first. That Navigraph based update is clever and renders it affordable for us sim guys. May introduce some error sources or missing descriptions though. Just thinking out loud.

I'm just reading their detailed pdf on the software. There is much more than on the G1000 from the Mustang and 182 of course. Nice feature set.
