April 18, 201214 yr I have a question about the Enroute Charts for the UK on this site. UK Example http://enroute.aircharts.org/charts/uk/upper_north.pdf USA Example http://enroute.aircharts.org/charts/us/ENR_H01.pdf I am assuming that these are real world charts ok? My question is, why is the UK chart so blank? It doesn't have Milage info, MOCA, MORA, MEA, Frequiences of VOR/NDB, Coordinates, Moores Code Idents etc, while the American charts is full of all of this ESSENTIAL IFR infromation. Uk chart; is it a High Speed Aircraft, RNAV only chart? What gives? Thanks. April 18, 201214 yr This is something that I've run into as well. I wanted to fly UK and EU routes using VOR navigation, and there is really no way to do it with charts that don't give radial info for the airways. The FSX Navlog headings don't work properly. David Norman Paul
April 18, 201214 yr I wonder how pilots manage to navigate in the UK in the real world? They use the correct navigation charts which are have to be bought. The UK chart referenced simply identifies the routes and is not a navigation chart Gerry Howard
April 18, 201214 yr May I suggest you invest in a few Aerad or Jeppesen enroute charts.. http://www.flightsto...use/brand.aerad These show the kind of detail you require and are used for real-world navigation. You can purchase High or Low level versions depending on whether you are intending to cruise above or below FL240. If you want more detailed VFR charts for the UK have a look here: http://www.flightsto...harts/ukcharts/ These are what we use when we're doing airborne traffic news. Good topographical detail with relevent aeronautical information overlaid. Hope this helps! Cheers Adam
April 18, 201214 yr Author Ok well the UK chart I've referenced MUST be a planning chart I think? Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
April 18, 201214 yr Ok well the UK chart I've referenced MUST be a planning chart I think? Why MUST it? Gerry Howard
April 18, 201214 yr Author Because it lack essential information for navigation while operating an aircraft. Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
April 19, 201214 yr Because it lack essential information for navigation while operating an aircraft. How can it even be a planning document when oy doesn't show airports? As I explained previously, there are VFR and IFR charts for the UK which are used for both planning and navigation. These have to be bought and so and so can't be downloaded free. The chart you referenced is purely informative and supplements this. which contains the full details of ATS routes, You can check UM125 for example . Standard routes in the UK are given here.
