Professional Flight Planner Update

TopCat and PFPX are doing completely different stuff, but if you have TopCat, data from PFPX will populate TopCat for seamless co-operation. Google the latest PFPX video, it shows this in practice.

This just in from the official forum: PFPX will do wind optimized routes. I have to say that PFPX is starting to look good!

Kinda good indeed! :D I am especially impressed and intrigued by all the youtube videos made by Gary McGinnis on how PFPX correlated to real world practices. I know already that I will use and be able to correctly interpret only a fraction of all the info in the reports PFPX produces! :D

This might help a little more to see PFPX capabilities.  This file here with permiission from AoA support, is from the AoA 737 Flightwork training Flight#2 from Rotterdam to Innsbruck. Information overload at first and a lot of paper and ink if printed is super detailed especially for FSX.

Personally I only printed the fuel  burn pages and kept the rest on the tablet.

Hello Dave,

I'm desperate to learn more, so here goes. Do you mean that the winds are taken into account:

a) when calculating an "optimal" flight level for a given route

c) auto generated route will be different based on projected winds aloft

c) both a & b?

If the answer is either b or c, then I have misunderstood something. On the official forum a member of the beta team mentioned, that "A lot of additional things would need to be added to PFPX to do winds routes."

This is where i got the impression that "only" a would be possible with the first release version.

I dont have the program but I saw it somewhere that under advanced options or something that the route can be more based on for best winds as opposed to shortest route.  Take a look at the PDF I posted and the last few pages it has the weather and winds information. I dont know if that particular route was done with the winds option selected however.

You are absolutely correct! When I first posted (on the 20th) the only auto routing modes (made available to the public) were AUTOL (low) AUTOH (high). A day later a new auto mode was demoed (AUTO+) which allows for wind optimized routes (and many more).
