Aircraft Lighting

Featured Replies

Is it only me or do you also think that the lights on the aircrafts are not bright enough?

You should see any aircaft some miles away due to their strobes and beacons.

That remindes of something: there is no aircraft with a beacon? Do the aircrafts have no beacon in real? I thoght the Maule had!?

Most lights are way too dim, both on the aircraft and on the ground. The primary exception seems to be the VASI bars, which are way too bright. Contrast them with the airfield rotating beacon... I usually can't see the beacon until I'm actually on the ground and taxi past it, but the VASI is visible from 10 miles out.

I seem to remember the beacons can be legally replaced by strobes, but I'll have to check the regs.

I agree with the visibility problem. It has always existed in all previous versions of FS; obstruction lights were rarely visible from any distance as well. I suppose it has to do with the limitations of the LOD or visibility variables. The farther away, the less pixels are displayed and very quickly there are just not enough for the effect to be seen. Definitely needs another way to program the effect, maybe by maintaining a fixed quantity of pixels for the light until it is really very far away.

Best regards.

They figured it out for the VASI. Or maybe it was just an accident. Anyway, whatever they are doing for the VASI could be a basis for improving the visibility of the strobes and beacons.

Expanding the pixel-count of distant lights intended to be visible at a distance would seem to be an ideal change.

I find the runway lights to be not rear as bright as they should be. In my real life night landings I had no trouble seeing the runway lights from well out on approach.

If your Flight pilot avatar wears dark glasses, then night vision WILL be reduced - I suspect ;)
