Which pnw Airport is best for me?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

This is just another thread of somebody who wants to Take Benefit of the orbx Sale.

I flew at ther VfR Germany regions in the past an did mainly ga, island and airstrip hopping. Everything low and slow. Usually i imagine a story around my flights, like transporting urgent stuff or business men or something like that.

Anyway now I want to explore some new regions and decided to get pnw and pacific fjords. Since I always had an imagined home base (in Germany it was the juist airport edwj) and I think it would be nice to have one of this highly detailled airport addons as a home base. But I don't know which one to get and maybe u can help me with that.

It should be a small airport or a airstrip (the municipal airports at too big already I think)

It should be highly detailed and Id love to have a good amount of ga traffic at the strip (is there a way to tell Fsx that I want more traffic at an specific airport/airstrip?)

Life is quiet important to me so car traffic and this moving people thing would be a nice to have too.

Last goodie would be a position that allows me to fly easily in both add on regions.

I have a list of 9 airports which seem to fit some of my requirements with Israel's farm, fall city and orcas island at the top. What do you think about this three. Do they meet the points above? What about other airports.

Hope you can help me.

Many greetings

Jazznow

Israel's and Fall City are both private strips so IRL they wouldn't see all that much traffic. Orcas Island is a good pick, especially with all the strips around the San Juan islands in OZx's freeware NA pack. And it's close to the PFJ region. I'd also take a good look at 1S2 Darrington, 3W5 Concrete and 0S9 Jefferson County if I were you. I particularly like Darrington myself, though I couldn't point to any specific reasons. I've got most of the PNW airports as well and they're all great. To be honest I have no idea which I'd pick if I could only choose one. If you're having trouble deciding you will find plenty of screenshots of each on the official Orbx forums.

On traffic, there's a free program called FSX GA-Traffic, do a Google search for it, that lets you create your own traffic for any airfield you want. At it's most basic level you simply choose which airports you want to create traffic for and then let it do its thing, but it allows you to manipulate a few details as well. It's simple enough to use, but at the same time not completely user-friendly, so you might want to look for some guides on the web on how to use it.

Cheers,

Mike

I'll second the recommendation for Orcas. It's in a great location. And if you add the OzX freeware San Juan island strips, you can fly to fantastic strips without ever leaving the immediate area.

Diamond Point is also great, given your requirements, and I too have a soft spot for Darrington. Just a beautiful airport to fly "home" to. All of these are located centrally for both PNW and PFJ. Fall city is nice but it's proximity to Seattle makes for some FPS loss, and the surrounding area isn't as scenic. Israel's Farm, while nice, is really just a meadow.

Here are a few areas close in the immediate area:

Wow so much useful hints and tips. Thank all of you so much. I think I will give orcas island a try. It looks most appealing to me at the various screens that are around.

Thanks again. You all were a great help.

KORS is a great starter.

If you get KORS, don't forget to pick up the OzX freeware airports for the San Juans. They are excellent, and offer more than a dozen great little strips to fly to within 30 minutes of KORS (and that's in the Cub!).

Because this isn't the official forum I can thoroughly recommend Tongas Fjords X by FSAddons. It blends seamlessly with Pacific Fjords from ORBX and has a number of fields and seaplane bases. Don't get "blinded in the headlights" by the sale.

Ugh, I'm really mad that I didn't get either Orcas Island or Diamond point, they look soooo good! But, I shouldn't complain, I got PacFj, PNW, Ketchikan, and Harvey (even if Harvey is an especially bad frame sucker, though it does have lots of options.)
