Huge fps drop over water

Sorry for the previous post Sean, me being a durgh brain. I'll download the editor later today and follow your suggestions, cheers.

No problem.

Yeah, that should fix the problem for you. It was because the original textures were 32bit, which in a lot of cases seems to cause less the stellar performance and the DXT versions look the same. I think Tim is going to give the option in the Essentials update to give the option to install those as DXT as well.

Prior to changing mine to DXT I was getting a lot of stutters and FPS variances over water and couldn't figure out why until I hunted the textures down and saw 32bit. Once changed its smooth as silk.

Hey Sean, I did change the textures, but was unhappy with the look of them. There was a distinct difference in quality I felt, so I have reverted back to using 'use this.' I have to say, IMO it's a very close second to 'sparkling' so I won't lose any sleep over things. I'll just wait for Rex Essentials to arrive... hopefully before too long (are you listening Tim? )

Really, you noticed a difference in visual quality? You did convert to DXT5 right and not some other format? I'm surprised you can tell any difference in the look. After I did mine the first time as a test I went straight to the water and couldn't notice any difference in the look.

Well at least you gave it a shot, the only bad part is that if you choose the DXT version in Essentials of the same texture you'll get the same result since it will just regenerate the same textures in the DXT format, the same as if you loaded REX 32bit clouds and then converted them to DXT yourself.

Sure, the difference I noticed was in the 'hardness' of the reflections and overall contrast. Maybe I'll take another look and try some changes with FS Water Configurator...
