A quick thanks to Rob PMDG

Hi Rob

 

I just wanted to compliment you on your range of Boeing Products, I in real life was qualified on the Airbus fleet ( lovely a/c by the way)

 

I have used your Boeing 744 for EICAS Training and handling prior to each Sim session, and it worked like a treat, on the day in the sim I knew in hand what secondary message would appear after a primary faliure.

 

I have shown this software to a few guys and our training dept and they quite impressed with it, so I thought I would share that feedback with you.

 

I am soon doing another conversion onto the B777 which I am really excited about at the end of this year to early next year, so I am sure the B777 product would come in very handy.

 

I saw you did a convention in Germany, do you have any plans to visit the UK for any kind of conventions?

You should check out www.aerowinx.de for a proffesional 747-400 simulator that can run on a home PC. Operating system independent.

I may be wrong on this, but last time I checked, The PMDG 747v2 was a LOT closer to release than the Aerowinx one.

In any case, the PMDG one seems to be a better bet for most simmers, unless if you'd like to run it natively on a Mac.

Aerowinx is quite close to release, it is also going to be used by various airlines in their training centers as opposed to a simulator that is purely a "toy"

 

Further the Aerowinx simulator is operating system independent it will run out of the box on either windows or Mac.

 

Let's not forget that PS1.3 was and is used by airlines around the world as part of their ground training for the 747-400.

If you get bored on the long hauls feel free to pull CB's yep that's right everything works as it would in the real aircraft.... As the platform is also designed for the training of engineering personnel also.

 

Features a working weather radar (that will also feature such things as ground clutter) working PWS etc etc

 

A Honeywell EGWS again working from a proper database

 

 

 

Instead of adding things like "dust" to the visuals... I think PMDG would be better spending the time updating things like the coding of their FMS database... Because at the moment is severely lacking... It might look "real" in the MCDU but unfortunately it does not behave like the real FMS due to the lack of support for the ARINC specification database...

 

This Means everything is always a "workaround"

Looks like just 2d though right? PMDG will look that good with the VC as well. That is the nicest looking 2d panel I have ever seen and even though I fly exclusively from the VC I may be tempted if it comes out before V2. But probably just as a procedures trainer for the PMDG V2 747. Ah yes a software program to fly a software program w/n a software program. Layers deep.

Denver, it goes way deeper than PMDG have ever dreamed... I wish they would step upto the plate with the 777 and make it to the Aerowinx Standard.

 

As for the layout you can do anything you want with it... You can have as many custom panels as you wish... And of course it is designed so the software can power anything else.... Built in from the start (designed to power full size simulators)

 

Of course it is also free from the constraints of MSFS so need for work arounds.. You get a flight model that is correct.

Like I said... They are better if they want a toy.....

If we're going to use the Aerowinx software at home, for personal use, doesn't that render it... I don't know... A toy?

It all depends on what you're going to do with it. Most people in these forums have invested quite some money in addons. Not only planes, but scenery, weather engines, textures,... They're not going to throw all that away for a sim with mediocre visuals (I am not saying anything about systems depth here), when most of them will never get further than understanding 25-50% of the addons they can buy from PMDG. And who can blame them? It's not like their lives depend on it like they do for a real crew.

Perhaps BA and LH don't use PMDG per se, but a lot of the CBT-training in BA's training center takes place on FSX (or FS9). As does the training with Sabena Flight Academy, the Dutch Aviation school etc. etc.

It all depends.

And a fun little fact, BA or LH wouldn't even be allowed to use PMDG's addons, read the EULA ;-)

It was always my understanding that the Aerowinx B744 was/is a procedures simulator. It had very limited outside visuals and that appears to still be the case? At one time the only way to get good outside visuals was throught a port with MSFS. I'm not sure how good that worked. Are the pictures that you posted the Window's version that Hardy has been talking about for a while? Some of the visuals had a familiar look, only in color.

 

Hardy does good work, but comparing it to PMDG is like comparing apples and oranges. I would venture to say, if PMDG thought there was a market for a procedures simulator with limited outside visuals and a limited cockpit, they could be very competitive.
