AMD drivers poll

Featured Replies

Ok, this a poll for ATI (AMD) users.

AMD is the minority in simming communities, but AVSIM seems to attract most of them.

So , let's share some personal experience.

Which driver is best for FSX, and especially for the 5800 GPU series?

It would be nice if you state your preferred drivers and your GPU model.

If your concerns are only FSX then figuratively speaking any driver will really do.. So just grab the latest 12.4 and you're set..

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

I had no problems with any ATI (AMD) driver so far. Now I'm using 12.1 but only because I'm too lazy to update every month when I don't have to. Only problem I had in the past was with FS2004, but FSX runs smoothly. Using old () 4830.

Cheers, George.

12.2 I think, and I do update everytime I'm goaded. Updating never makes a bit of difference, but check out Tom Tsui's research on ATI CCC settings in my sig below.

I update each month just to remain current even though all i touch is FSX and a few other sims. I don't think any driver from recent years makes much difference with FSX.

ATI are probably only focusing on recent software with regards to fixes and improvements and would probably give us a look of 'Eh, you what!' if asked about FSX improvements in there current driver releases.

Kind Regards

Simon.

It is true (unfortunately) that AMD does not take into consideration FSX for any improvement work they do.

Nevertheless, some drivers seem to fit better. E.g. 11.2 seemed to be a considerable improvement compared to previous (that is for 5850). Later 2011 drivers were not worst, but they did not seem to offer some more for FSX.

I think that 2012 releases are worst for FSX (maybe just a wrong feeling), so 11.8-11.10 seem the best choice. Does anybody else share this view?
