May 7, 201214 yr Yesterday I followed the trick to get to 85000' and get the "Round Earth" Aerocache... Strangely the aircraft used is the Icon... On the way down I was able to reproduce that awful/weird/completely unrealistic effect that I was once able to reproduce and record with the Extra in MSFS X, where with your engine OFF, during a spin, the aircraft starts rotating wildly and eventually climbing too.... I was really mad, because I was yet to find that effect in FLIGHT, and that was after a few minutes flying the p51 and finding out how realistic it was regarding the assimetry of roll rates depending on if your roll right or left (due to engine torque...) Well, a few hours later I thought that the blame was on me, after all I should never have accepted the trick but rather wait for some airplane to be released that will really allow me to get that high.... Well.... May 7, 201214 yr Jcomm, You never saw the video I put up on YouTube in response to yours a couple of weeks ago? I did it in the Stearman from 10k. It's Pretty easy to do of you watch the vid. I wouldn't get mad at flight. I don't know a single sim that handles stalled aircraft well.
May 7, 201214 yr Author Oops! No :-( I'll check it right away... Thx! You never saw the video I put up on YouTube in response to yours a couple of weeks ago? May 7, 201214 yr I don't know a single sim that handles stalled aircraft well Amazingly, Aces High at www.hitechcreations.com does stalls and spins VERY well. IMHO of course.
May 8, 201214 yr I did toy with Aces High years ago, but since I have never flown those aircraft and probably never will, I can't judge the accuracy. All my opinions are based on a Maule M-5 and C172S in any sims I have used. One thing I take issue with in a lot of combat sims is how a plane can enter a spin when stalled in coordinated flight with the engine at idle. Many combat sims, IMHO, implement a "canned" behavior so that a stall = spin. In some cases the spin is instantly a flat and unrecoverable spin even if proper recovery action is taken immediately. Again, I'm not sure, but based on my somewhat limited experience it doesn't make sense to me. I don't know the M-7 at all, but LAdamson loves the RV and he's an owner, so that sounds like an endorsement! In any case, I think this sim handles most of the performance numbers fairly well, so no complaints from me. FYI - I did find out that I will have the opportunity to check out in a RL Stearman, and yes it is certified to perform aerobatics including spins in the aircraft! Hopefully, I'll be able to provide some feedback for that in the coming months. :Peace:
May 8, 201214 yr I don't know the M-7 at all, but LAdamson loves the RV and he's an owner, so that sounds like an endorsement! I don't have the Flight RV6A. Just the Baytower RV-7(A) for FSX. And I certainly do like real life RVs... L.Adamson
May 8, 201214 yr Oh I thought you were the owner on the forums. Sorry about that. Hi, Just so there is no confusion, I did build and fly a (real life) Van's RV6A. This one.
May 8, 201214 yr LAdamson. That is a gorgeous looking aircraft; thanks for sharing and posting the picture. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
May 8, 201214 yr Author Whow! Didn't know that one was still alive :-) It's been a loooong time since I last used it :-) But yes, some sims do it very acceptably, just as Condor (the soaring sim) as well as Silent Wings. I also believe the DCS p51 recently released as a demo most certainly does it too... But, on the freeware side of our hobby, there's FlightGear with it's JSBSim FM where stalls and spins feel very acceptable for well designed aircraft (FG can use 2nd order derivates to characterize lifting surfaces) This is an area where I can somehow accept deviations from a more realistic behaviour, but I am looking fwd for the patch for the piston engines in FLIGHT, that old story about cycling your RPM lever having no effect at all in MP... Almost every piston engine sim models does this, and FS9 / FSX do ... When attention is payed to so many aspects, including some really nice tunning of the flight and overall physics model, I believe this should really get addressed... Amazingly, Aces High at www.hitechcreations.com does stalls and spins VERY well. IMHO of course.
