May 8, 201214 yr I know this probably belongs in some of the general forums, but since we are all a big PMDG family. I think it fits better here :) To make it short, I passed 'selection' a month ago at the Royal Danish Airforce, and I'm due to start april 2013! :-) Why did I wait a month to announce it to you? Well, you see SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) are also fancying me. But due to the unsure and very turbulent times in the aviation industry (With the recent bankruptcy of Cimber Sterling and the Q1 decifit at SAS) I've decided to play it safe. And hey, whats more awesome: Fixing Airbusses or Boeings, or fixing F16's?! :D Have a nice day everyone (: Philip D. Schmidt Jensen - Denmark
May 8, 201214 yr hey philip very happy for you and good luck in whatever you choose to do i'm with you ..F16s..... steve-0 REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
May 8, 201214 yr Commercial Member Congrats! A good friend of mine fixes Tornados in Saudi, whenever he comes over to Bahrain to hang out for a few drinks he has some awesome stories. If I had to choose between watching an engine run up in a fighter or an airliner I know which one would put the biggest grin on my face! Rob Prest
May 8, 201214 yr That is great!!!! Wish You luck. I think fixing the f-16 is going to be better. Fernando B ( I know I misspelled Boeing, I did it on purpose to make it Unique )
May 8, 201214 yr Author Thanks everyone! :) I'm so exited. My uncel is a retired Colonel in the Airforce, so I guess it runs in the family :-D I also talked to a mechanic, who had just been deployed to the Seychelles for three months! (The RDAF have some Bombardier planes who fly recon missions, in the battle againts the somali pirates.) Monday. Fix aircrafts Tuesday. Chill on the beach Wednesday. Fix more aircrafts. Thursday. Chill on the beach with a cold beer. :Money Eyes: Philip D. Schmidt Jensen - Denmark

May 9, 201214 yr Author Congratulations Philip. And Friday goes into Saturday night and into Sunday. Monday you have the world's biggest hangover compounded by the F-16s. Haha yeah. Nothing like the ROOOOAR of an F16, when you have a massive hangover ;) Here is a bonus picture of me inside an SAS Airbus A330-300X, taken in Copenhagen Airport back in january :) Philip D. May 10, 201214 yr As an ex-RAF technician, who then through that training got taken on by BA years later, I salute your wise choice, and like everybody else here, am not only happy for your aviation career about to take-off(oh, please forgive that unintended pun!)but wish you All The Best. Whichever branch of aviation engineering you choose, be it civil or military, I'm sure you will get a kick like I did watching the Concorde returning late evening back to base from JFK, knowing that you were part of a team that got your fighter or Airbus up in the air. Rick. Thanks a lot for that kind comment! :Applause: It sounds like you have had quite a career! Especially since you worked on the Concorde! But yes, I'm very excited to "take off" and I'm sure that I'll be placed in a great team. So are you still working for BA or retired? Philip D. Schmidt Jensen - Denmark
May 11, 201214 yr So are you still working for BA or retired? Sadly, no, as property prices around Heathrow finally nailed my career there, and I moved North to work at BA's Manchester operations until there too closed down. Am now an oldie, retired, with happy memories of my RAF and BA days, and getting pleasure reading about young men like you about to embark on a career that will make you the envy of many. That stinks :/ But If I see you in Manchester some day, I'll buy you a pint of beer! :-) Philip D. Schmidt Jensen - Denmark
May 11, 201214 yr That stinks Sadly, that is a fact of life. If you work at the world's busiest airport, at least it was so in those halcyon days, then a lone house buyer one faces very stiff competition from the airlines of the world, most of them nationalised, so with bulging pockets ready to pay any asking price. Results? Me=0;Airlines=70+ !! And to add salt, I was on a permanent night shift at Manchester, working at an airport that looks nothing today like in my days(er'm...that should be nights)there. I was offered a job at the then Dan-Air where the present Thomas Cook maintenance hangar is, but their rates of pay as a private company compared to a nationalised company, were on the low side,so declined.
