June 3, 201214 yr Moderator I'm really thinking about pulling the trigger on this product, but do you think SSD's will be like flatscreens real expensive at first and now they are realatively cheap compared to two years ago? I really want to get a 500GB one but man they are pricey. Of course. SSD's are just like any new technology, after a while they will be common place and the price will drop. I remember when BlueRay players first hit the market and they were in the neighborhood of $800 and now you can get good ones for between $100 - $200. I'm going to hold out until the price drops a bit more so that I can get a 250 to 500gb drive for under $200 and then I will jump in. Right now the ones that are 125GB and reasonably priced are just a tad too small and I wont be able to really have a lot of room for FSX expansion. June 3, 201214 yr "disabled my IRST" what does this mean ? thanks Carl. Intel Rapid Storage Technology- part of the Z68 chipset feature- uses an Intel Larsen Creek 20G SSD as cache for the Primary HD. Hardware controlled. I feel the net performance with Adrenaline is better- and I can disable/enable at will so that I can image the HD for backup. Could not with the IRST...... Best- Carl Avari-Cooper
June 3, 201214 yr I have moved to using an SSD. My route for doing so was — 1. Consolidate my existing C: drive to contain only Windoze and fsx (around 150 Gb) — I moved everything else onto other internal HDDs. 2. Buy an SSD "kit" (i.e. comes complete with fitting rails, cables, and software to clone the existing C: drive to reboot into the SSD version of it) that accommodated the whole of my fsx and Windoze, with an extra 30-50% empty space. (240 Gb) 3. Run the clone software to clone my C: drive onto the SSD, then change the boot drive in the BIOS and reboot using the SSD instead of the previous HDD. It really was that simple. The results were: a ) Windoze startup times were slashed. FSX startup times were significantly reduced. No improvement to FSX frame rates overall. b ) FSX performance was unaffected. But at least the SSD means that I don't have to keep defragging my fsx drive. ;-) Just my 2¢. Hope it helps. Cheers, Brian
