May 13, 200422 yr Don't get me wrong - I love FS9 and still marvel at what has been accomplished in this hobby in just 15 years or so. Still, I was recalling a few things the other day that were in the very first versions of MSFS but have fallen by the wayside for no reasons I can imagine besides oversight.I recall the very first version of MSFS required you to turn off the strobes when going through a cloud. Otherwise you were "blinded" by the flashing light, just like in the real world. Cool effect but gone! Also, in some of the adolescent versions of MSFS distant ATIS recordings were dim and static-filled until you got closer. That was very realistic, compared to FS9 where the recording suddenly appears magically - loud and clear. I was amazed when I started my cross-country solos for my PPL to find ATIS recordings are not always easy to hear and understand.I'm sure there are other features that have been left behind. Anyone?David
May 13, 200422 yr The early versions had the WWI game too. I liked that, but MS felt the need to make a completely different game out of it. It would have been a nice feature to continue including, since the combat code is probably actually buried in the FS code somewhere- we know the damage model is there, they could probably add weapons pretty easily. Instead of that annoying AI cessna causing you to go missed, you could just strap some .50's on your A320 and knock him into next week.
May 13, 200422 yr Weapons would be too much fun! We could settle those Airbus vs Boeing arguments once and for all! :) ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
May 13, 200422 yr The only feature I miss is the ability to pan from views other than the forward view. One used to be able to pan the view up or down in the side views by keystroke--but not any more. FS2002 was the last sim that had this feature...-John
May 13, 200422 yr One thing that annoys me is that every aircraft's blinking lights are in sync. Was that the case with earlier versions?>Weapons would be too much fun! We could settle those Airbus>vs Boeing arguments once and for all! :)OK, but if we are going to play Airbus vs Boeing I get to fly this:http://www.airbornelaser.com/pics-clips/abl15.htmlhehe.
May 13, 200422 yr weapons? sorry, no need for those. just my 2 cents. I didn't really like the WW game mode. need some infos on weapons: go to google.com, enter 'weapons of mass destruction' and hit the 'I'm feeling lucky' button (NOT enter) and enjoy :-) Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
May 13, 200422 yr I get to plug one of my files! Asynchronous Strobe Effects:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...misc&DLID=40246Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
May 13, 200422 yr I miss the simplicity. You had like two choices back then - cessna or learjet? Color or monochrome? We didn't have fancy math back then - there was one, twain and multitudes, and WE LIKED IT THAT WAY! Those were the days. ;)(I'm kidding of course...)"Would you trade Wisdom for Innocence just to have one more chance to view the world through those eyes?" May 13, 200422 yr there is a file ..not sure what its called, but it does fix that problem with the sync lighting..im sure if you search around you'll find it.i use it, and the aircraft lights flash at different times.. steve
May 13, 200422 yr I beleive you can still do that, you just need to change the key assignment, although I haven't tried myself Alaister Kay
May 13, 200422 yr You can pan from the forward views only (being able to pan from the cockpit fwd view does require a mod to FS9.cfg). Panning was taken away in the side views in order to support some changes in functionality within the sim. You can pan from the forward view to the side view, in V/C mode. In that context you can pan up and down, but the flip side is you have to be flying in V/C mode... I liked having the ability to pan in the side views from 2-d cockpit mode, since it gave a touch of realism to aircraft like the Dreamfleet Cardinal that have full wing views...I should have also mentioned by panning, I mean being able to shift your view *angle* right or left, or up or down. The side view still supports moving the view *point* up and down, right and left, and fore/aft...-John
May 14, 200422 yr One feature Microsoft took out was mouse as yoke - the ability to fly using the mouse instead of a joystick or yoke. The last version with this feature was FS2000. The mouse gives very precise control and it's obviously useful - more like essential - if you don't have a joystick or yoke handy. There is an addon that adds the mouse as yoke function - the author indicated that Microsoft may restore this in the next version. I hope they do, as it was very useful. Best regards, Chris
