June 12, 201213 yr Yesterday I successfully tested DX10 fix posted by stevejp here: http://forum.avsim.n...imental-shader/ I also use VSync set at 1/2 refresh rate and standard tweaks (highmem,.. nothing fancy) and I experienced the smoothest flight ever.. on my machine. So, I seriously think about staying with DX10. I use in-game filtering and AA, it's not perfect but much better than I thought (ok, now we need another genius to fix that too). But now I already see problems with that.. in my collection of addons (too many to count) there must be some that are not compatible with DX10 or at least they have a DX9/10 switch. I'll probably go through them all (and I'll post the findings) but for the start does anybody remember any such addons? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
June 12, 201213 yr You talking scenery or aircraft? Certainly scenery wise, UK2000 airports seem to be DX10 compatible, as do my 2 FSDT airports but I'm not sure the FSDT ones have all the evening/night textures. Aerosoft ones seem to be worst (some have a DX10 switch, but usually only for daytime). I have Add On Converter X http://www.flightsimtools.com/adconvx/ and that does a great job of doing my aircraft (though I don't have any payware) and it can do the airport sceneries to a certain extent as well. I find quite often that at Aerosoft airports there will be some (though not all) airport buses and other vehicles driving around with white textures on them - what I plan on doing when I get the time is to perhaps try to find those models, and copy them into a different folder that AOCX will definitely scan, convert them, and then copy back. As regards DX10 night textures in some airports I don't know if it's something missing that AOCX can create from the DX9 textures or not (they have a support forum so would probably be able to advise there). Hope that helps!
June 12, 201213 yr Author I'm talking about both, scenery and aircraft. Actually I had an impression that most payware addons work in DX10 (ORBX stuff, PMDG, Carenado airplanes,....). I just wanted to find some of those that don't (or have a DX9/10 switch) to save some time. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
June 12, 201213 yr Author What exactly happens with those airports at night? Just some textures are blank or the whole airport is broken? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
June 12, 201213 yr Depends on the airport - some just have quite a few building textures black/missing, others have no ground textures as well.
June 21, 201213 yr Author I guess my question should be which payware addons ARE compatible with DX10 :Sigh: During the day all is well but at night.. just a handful are working properly. Most Aerosoft and all FSDT airports have no ground textures during the night. I am looking at Addon Converter X which claims to convert textures and scenery objects to be compatible with DX10.. on the fly. Anybody has any experience with it? Does it work? I know that FSDT airports can't be converted in any way because they use some special technology for texture loading or something and we can't do nothing about it. But how about Aerosoft airports (I have A LOT of them)? Would this addon work with them? As I said, the major problem are missing ground textures during the night.. no aprons, no taxiways, no runways.. it's unflyable, I would say. I didn't find any major problems with aircrafts though. June 21, 201213 yr Does anyone have it? Have a look at post #2 :P Unfortunately it doesn't fix the night textures for my Aerosoft/FlyTampa airports. If I had the time I might have posted on the AOCX support forum about whether they can be fixed by another method but I haven't had a chance.
June 21, 201213 yr Author Does anyone have it? Have a look at post #2 :P Oh, man, it's 35°C over here and I'm a bit slow in my head  Well, I don't have much freeware stuff, payware aircrafts that I own have no problems with DX10, airports are the main problem. Most of those I frequently fly from/to (LOWW, EGSS, German airports, ... so Aerosoft, FlyTampa and UK2000) don't work properly at night. It's a shame that Addon Converter is not effective in those cases. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
June 21, 201213 yr Ha, only joking! Yeah I found AOCX worked extremely well for aircraft, but nowhere near as well for airports. UK2000 seem to be fine, although I can't remember whether that was out-of-the-box or after being run through AOCX.
June 21, 201213 yr Author UK2000 seem to be fine, although I can't remember whether that was out-of-the-box or after being run through AOCX. I tired EGSS and there were some really strange effects on the runway during the night. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
June 21, 201213 yr Since Steve has "FIXED DX10!!" I'm now using it, as it is much smoother than 9. Yes - I have also used AddonCoverter several times, but have always ended up uninstalling it - I think, due to the addons I use all being payware and purchased/used after I purchased it, and most, if not all that I have purchased are all FSX SP2 compatible, or have been made compatible. It seems that this also applies to them being compatible with DX10. Bearing in mind that Steve's fantastic mods are only a week old - all the OrbX PNW and its' airports and aircraft, static and AI scenerys appear to be just fine: all RealAir and Coronado seem fine, and I just upgraded MTX from 3.5b to 5.4a ($18) and from the (50% AI and GA) now - all is well with them, too. The MTX aircraft around the PNW - http://www.myflights.../Downloads.html modified FlyTampa KSEA (slight flashing on jetways), and also at KBFI, KPAE and Renton are all compatible, and have a very light footprint. (Incidentally - the 4.5a MTX AI/GA textures are all much better than those of earlier versions.) The Victoria Flying Club's nine Cessna aircraft (HTAI) in Don Grovestines Victoria 2011/Victoria+ scenery, however - are not compatible, nor could I, after a couple of hours fiddling with BGLAnalyze and NewBGLAnalyze, make them compatible, so they're gone. They are just grey Cessnas'. Overall - thanks to guys like ******* Altuve and Steve, the sim is just getting better and better. I like DX10, and will probably switch completely in a week or so. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
June 21, 201213 yr Author It seems that this also applies to them being compatible with DX10. Not in all cases. Night ground textures are a common problem even with those compatible with SP2 (airports developed by FSDT, Aerosoft, Flytampa,..). I share your other opinions. I'm now also using DX10 with great success (I have all the addons you mentioned too). Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery

June 21, 201213 yr FlyTampa's sceneries don't work in DX10, as far as I know, but I remember when I installed Kai Tak, the installer asked me if I'd like custom RWY and apron textures (not DX10 compatible) or the default ones. Florian
