CLS MD80 for FS9 - Any Reccomendations?

Featured Replies

As you all probably saw, the AVSIM store is running a 25% sale on CLS products. I am considering getting the MD80 but just wanted to see what some of you who already have it would recommend.

I know that there are much better MD80's available - especially the Mad Dog. But to be honest, I'm about maxed out on handling complex aircraft with full systems modelling. Heresy to some I know, but sometimes you just want to kick the tires and light the fires. As in the real world, there is a limit to how many aircraft you can be current in and fly competently. (Unless you're Chuck Yeager!)

So for me - an immersive VC and good frame rates and a "believable" flight model are what most count. I would be grateful for any feedback

Thanks

Ian

Thanks Ernie. That would have been a sad mistake. I usually "look before I leap" but on this occasionan my enthusiasm for a great bargain got the better of me.... I will spend the money on the QW146 instead...

That seems to be the consensus of everyone who has it. I'm almost afraid to get it - I'm addicted enough already!!! LOL

Listen Ian (with no wink!)

I need no smoke and need no drink*

All that simply is since I

can do nothing else but fly!

* Not 100%, I'm just cooling a beer to support my FS9 reinstall session tonight.

What kind of friends are you? One tells me to waste FS addon money on a therapist and the other suggests giving up beer! Get your priorities right...

1. FS9 addons

2. Beer

3. More beer

:Just Kidding:

BTW, I did get the QW 146 and I'm loving it.... I might even get around to reading the manual some time this month... Now for me, that's a serious sign that I'm hooked....

Cheers

Ian

ps. Good luck with the reinstall Rafal. Any specific problem or is it just time to clean it all up? I'm thinking about doing the same thing, though the thought really does make me want to get a therapist - or a case of beer...

all 3 and add a 4th to your list :LMAO:

Ian, now I must be the only FS9er not having the QW146 yet!

But I promise once I overcome my general graphics problems, I will add it to my virtual hangar.

Most people seem to enjoy it, so I see no reason why I couldn't too.

Especially when you read threads like this, seeing how FS9ers are treated by many FSXers:

The best you can get in the Net!

Any specific problem

Yes. I have recently lost the joy of simming due to graphics problems described in three other posts - blurry ground and jagged roads no matter what I do.

I suspected my CPU being too slow without overclock, my numerous installs having screwed up something and even my idiocy of not being able to follow FS9.cfg and NVInspector settings.

So I had my CPU overclocked to 4.0 and I even reinstalled the sim completely and the blurries/juggies are all still there in the default! Plus my post in the 'Help using the AVSIM forums' forum.

Looks like some general graphics (card) problems. I will fight, no give up. Too long in this game to be fooled by technology, no matter how tricky. :aggressive:

Have a great beerkend!

Really unfortunate. There are lots of examples of this kind of behaviour around this and other forums, even from devellopers.

Why can't all respect each one's choices?

Am I forced to fly at 8 FPS at EGLL just because everyone says it's better for me?? I'm currently building my 5th PC since FSX came out. I have an akward feeling that this may not be enough to run FSX satisfactory and according to MY preferences.

Sorry for the off-topic. I really recommend the Leonardo Mad Dog if you're looking for a complex MD-80

Best regards

Unfortunately there is something wrong in human nature. You can see it in other aspects of life too.

People throwing stones (or worse) at people believing other religions or prefering different love.

Groups of 'fans' kicking someone's head just because he crossed his fingers for another football club.

Or, in a lighter version of course, the old 'Airbus vs Boeing' I bullsh#t.

Additionally the Internet gives you anonymity, something that many aggressive, especialy young, guys are excited to use for virtual fights.

I think we should have more females around in the forums. They are quieter in general and don't tend to play 'Mine is bigger than yours' (for rather obvious reasons, lol).

True, it is one of the best addons ever and the most complex MFS aircraft ever made.

Now I fly my Airbus exclusively, but I admit to have hundreds of happy hours on LH Maddog.

Really unfortunate. There are lots of examples of this kind of behaviour around this and other forums, even from developers.

Thanks for the handy illustration of why I prefer to stay with FS9 and post here. Much more friendly, mature atmosphere. And developers who act so dismissively of potential customers aren't getting a dime from me anytime soon.

Yes. Although I have many other reasons to stay with FS9, this is also one of them. A very sad but real one.

I am just literally sick with adult (?) people making collective fun of others just because they are using a different platform for (at least how I see it in my naivety) a shared passion of flightsimming.

Sometimes it makes me feel so disgusted that I seriously consider asking to have my forum account removed (not only at AVSIM) and not wasting time being here.

Why are people like that? I will never understand.

I think we should have more females around in the forums.

I know what you want! :LMAO:

Indeed, at first I thought that it was just some kids having fun. When I've started to see established developers following the same path, I realized that this is lack of civism and a just reflex of our society.

For example, it troubles me that people demand PC upgrades of over 1000€ as if it was the most natural thing to do, regardless of the current economic scenario. Lot's of people lost their jobs in the last few years. In the place I live, unemployment rate is over 15%. This is the world we are living in, some people living in highly developed countries are struggling to fulfill their basic needs. We must put these things in perspective before ostracizing someone that doesn't have the latest offer from Intel or isn't able to replicate their current FS9 payware library in FSX.

Best regards
