Considering NGX

Featured Replies

Trying to estimate how the NGX will perform on my machine. I currently get adequate performance with the 744X (25-30 FPS). Does the NGX tend to take more or less of a FPS hit than the 744X on the same system. I am currently running a Core i5 2500k with 8 gigs of RAM, but have a less than great vid card, that I need to replace down the road. Just wondering it my current system will run the NGX at the same level or better that the 744x, or if I need to wait until I upgrade the vid card?

What card do you have? I have the 560ti with same cpu and ram amount as you and its pretty good. I have found that the NGX doesnt really slow the system down that much. Its more the scenery addons that you use which will do this... But thats just my system.

You really should not be having any issues running it with that setup. Before I went up to a 560ti I was running a 260 gtx and was having a pretty good show with it.

I would say don't hesitate. Top product the ngx. Best I have seen in all honesty.

My graphics card is a Radeon HD 6450 with 1 gig of RAM, which has rather less umph that a GTX 560 TI. Anyway, I do hope to upgrade to something more along those lines, but my main question is whether people see much difference performance-wise between the NGX and the 744X when running on the same machine? I know the 744X is mildly long in the tooth by now (ergo the upcoming V2), and i was curious about whether the NGX was more demanding or about the same?

If you can run the 747 than the ngx will be no problem, I think it performs better than 747.

Andrew,

works fine on myW7 8G , i5 and a geforce 250 1 gig (100 dollar card)--go for it! You'll love the NGX.

I have never had any trouble relating to the NGX and performance.

The thing that kills my machine is all the other junk I install, like AS2012 and airport scenery. My own fault really.

same experience here, the ngx runs much faster than the 747 for me.. ... i think the new tech under the hood that pmdg developed for md-11/ngx/etc really streamlines the performance on these aircraft

If you can run the 744X at 25-30 FPS then expect a slight FPS drop with the NGX. Around 23-28 FPS. For me the NGX is definately the toughest of all PMDG planes. The MD-11 performs the best followed closely by the 744X and the 737NGX.
