IVAO & Vatsim

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Due to having a weak processor (i5 760 @ 3,4ghz) I tend to run the sim with all traffic off. As I run the NGX with FS2Crew and fly for a virtual airline the feeling of a lifeless world isn't too bad.

That said, I think I would like to try out Vatsim or IVAO. I tend to get about 26-30fps on the ground at airports like Heathrow (default, I'm not going to use addon airports til I get a Sandybridge in the future) - how much would Vatsim or IVAO effect my FPS? Would it be similar to say, Mytraffic X at 10% or worse?

Also, when using a default airport, if a Vatsim user is using something like Aerosofts Mega Airport Heathrow, how would they appear to me given that their airport is presumably larger, would they just appear to taxi and park up on random terrain?

Look forward to hearing from you!

In my experience, vatsim with fsinn gives me worse fps with small traffic(around 10 aircraft maybe) compared to fsx ai. Ivao is a bit better at this I think, not sure. This is why people run these programs on another pc.

If you use the default heathrow and someone else on the network uses the updated one, yes they would look like they are taxiing on the terrain and things like that.

Vatsim with squawk box doesn't affect performance for most people. I dont know about IVAO

It's the AI labels.... when i run SB4 on vatsim I get huge fps hit with labels on... probably something to do with my AA text and Inspector settings. Ctrl+Shift+L turns them on/off

Squawk box does affect my performance. I get about 7-8 frames less and some little more stutter when running It.

I do all my flying online on IVAO and I never experienced low performance that I would relate to IVAO traffic, then overcast with lots of cloud layers etc is much worse but I guess if there is lots of other online traffic next to you the performance will be affected to a certain degree. I also think the IVAO AI models are made in such a way only a small amount of detail will be displayed depending on the distance between you and the other traffic.

Of course best thing would be if you try it out yourself and place your aircraft at a busy airport.
