July 3, 201213 yr Hello All, Having updated my system performance is good, except for one little problem that drives me nuts: when panning in the VC (actually also spot view) the image seems to be drawn twice which especially seems to blur my cockpit. Best way to test for me: open the default flight and in the ultralight and look sideways that the red wires connected to the handle bar: when panning the wires seem to blur and go as wide as the pan movement between 2 frames. When stopping panning the wires are sharp and narrow again. Since I use TrackIr this effeft has become a nuisance as the frequent movement gives me an 'out of focus' sensation. I've been searching this and other forums, where most sollutions point to improving the performance of my machine, but that is, verified, no problem. For a while I even thought my screen was interlacing, but that does not seem to be the case. I've played with all kinds of camera settings, frame limiters etc. but I keep coming down to that when panning, the frames seem to be half the old position and half the new position wich is a kind of motion blur. (higer frame rates make the effect smaller, but it's still there). Any tips would be much appreciated.
July 3, 201213 yr This is one of the drawbacks of LCD monitors. You will often see a specification listed when shopping for a monitor that will say 10ms, 5ms, 2ms, etc. That's how fast the monitor can refresh the image. Lower latencies reduce that ghosting effect, but it's still there. I have an Asus VW246 which is a 2ms monitor but I still get pretty bad ghosting (when comapred to an good old CRT anyway.) One annoying thing is that the high end LCDs (the ones that have IPS panels and tend to be used by graphic artists and such) actually have worse ghosting.
July 3, 201213 yr Moderator This is one of the drawbacks of LCD monitors I have a run of the mill Samsung 23" wide screen and have never experienced anything like this and to be frank, haven't seen many topics posted here about this. Because of that, I dont think its that wide spread of a problem otherwise we would be hearing about it more often. Perhaps a problem with the video card or video card drivers/settings could be the cause? Maybe a heat problem? Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
July 3, 201213 yr Any tips would be much appreciated. Is your cable the problem? http://www.madebymar...ost-images.html DIMITRI
July 5, 201213 yr Author Thanks all for the tips. I've tried with two screens, two different cables and also went back to old mother board and graphics card briefly, which uses different drivers. All works good, but the ghosting effect is the same. I guess I've always had it, but only now that my system is up to scratch and everything else is smooth I see this. For now, I guess the LCD screen latency is the best explanation (my 2 screens are 5 and 8ms, not bad I thought). On the plus side, at least I'm a master at rebuilding the pc by now.... The CPO cooler seems to installed much better (a bit more cooling paste than previously does wonders), running cool at 4.5GHz.
July 5, 201213 yr Hi. I'm new to FSX and have just upgraded from a high-end CRT monitor to an IPS LCD monitor. It has some advantages (I love the wide screen ratio) but also some big disadvantages including lower 60HZ limit and slight motion blur. One thing I've changed recently that has improved FSX Virtual Cockpit performance with the LCD screen is added this command to the fsx.CFG. Under [GRAPHICS] (not DISPLAY) add this line: ForceFullScreenVSync=1 (make sure it's a "1" and not "True") I am running with VSYNC set to 'Adaptive (half refreash rate)' set in Nvidia control panel and my FPS set at 30 in FSX and everything seems pretty good now. Without the above command I was still getting a TEARING effect when panning around in the VC. This could sort of be considered a blurring effect to some people. This was also weird considering I had either VSYNC or Adaptive VSYNC selected which is supposed to eliminate Tearing. Worth a try.
July 5, 201213 yr Hi Mike, ForceFullScreenVSync=1 should be removed when using 1/2 refresh Vsync. Vsync should be set to Standard, not adaptive in NV Inspector as per Word Not Allowed's guide. (Cannot link it, thread showing SQL error) I would suggest using NV Inspector instead of NV Control Panel.
