Offline Playing Microsoft Flight Alaska Addon ond Hawaii ?

Featured Replies

Hello

The addon can alaska and hawaii addon play offline?

Thank You so much

xenocracy_2001

I disable my modem to fly offline.

Just disabled my network and was able to launch Flight and fly in Alaska. It was a bit annoying at first as it seemed to want to re-award me all of my rewards, one at a time. Other than that, I had no trouble.

I never do multiplayer so I always fly on my own. I call that flying offline, however I do login to GFWL... so I AM online while playing offline... I do think xenocracy_2001 is talking about flying in Alaska and Hawaii without an internet connection though (?), and that seems to work, as the last two posts made clear. Still, I'd like to add that you are never forced to play multiplayer!

This is an interesting question, because if MS would ever shut down the game, would we have anything usable left from our investment?

I think your investments in Flight are more secure than any investements done in for instance FSX.

I'm not sure I understand your answer. If you mean " as secure as a software-based program ", I can perhaps agree. "More secure than investments in....FSX", without some substantiation, falls short. Let me rephrase my question: If MS stops supporting one of their on-line games, is the game and the peripherals purchased still playable from your own computer?

I doubt anyone could substantively answer that, however since one can fly " offline", would sure lead me to believe that it would still be playable. I flew a mission earlier when not being able to sign in to GFWL, due to a problem on the server end, without a problem.

This was also a big similar topic back when FSX first came out with it's "activation" scheme - many were concerned if they ever stopped supporting it, they would not be able to activate the product when doing a new install. To date to my knowledge, this has not been an issue.

Please read the posts from above your own and it will answer your question.

Well... those posts only answer the question if you can play Flight offline once you installed it. It doesn't anwer the question if you will be able to install Flight and download all DLC whenever MS decided to pull the plug... However, I think we don't have to fear that. If MS will ever pull the plug, they will make sure we will be able to play the game nonetheless.

Which brings me to:

Yes, my answer was a bit short. What I meant to say was that a lot of people (including me) have invested a LOT of money in (for instance) FSX. That money was spend on addons from 3PD's and a lot of them are very small businesses. It wouldn't be odd if a few of those 'for the love of the hobby' companies (quite often just one guy) would stop to exist and support their addons. Those addons could become not usable anymore due to that. However, I don't think MS will be out of business soon, so... investing money in Flight is a saver investment then investing in (for instance) FSX.

EDIT

Er... that didn't come out right, really. I don't mean to say that you can't trust 3PD's or shouldn't buy theor addons!!! I just meant to say that history has proven that investments in 3PD's addons for Flight were pretty good investments, so investing in MS DLC should be a no brainer. Hope you know what I mean LOL

OK, outside of the sim world (back in the gaming world) this is an old question which has already been settled. When a company which uses online distribution/authentication is about to go out of business, they release downloadable installation kits and disable the online verification systems. The SOP in the industry is to make these available for a "reasonable" time, which almost always ends up being 12 months, to grab your copy of that version from an official source.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't expect Microsoft to go out of business before you no longer have any wish to install Flight on any future system you will have at that point.

However, if anyone really is that paranoid about downloadable software distribution, then by all means, just buy games which are available on CD/DVD. Personally, my computer doesn't even have a CD/DVD drive, so I'm more worried about a company that doesn't make its software available via download. Even FSX is now a downloadable product.

I can't remember the last time I bought a packaged product on cd or dvd - has been a while - being able to purchase and download the product has just become way more convenient for me - I can then store the original installation files on a hard drive, or even burn an image of them to a disc for safekeeping.
