Carenado C172 GPS

Featured Replies

Is there any method of porting the FSX Garmin GPS 500 into the Carenado C172? The default FSX C172 has this model GPS whereas the Carenado model is restricted by the GPSMAP 295.

If you mean the 2D pop-up panel (Shift+3), go to the airplane's directory (replace the part in red if you have not installed FSX in the default location):

c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado C172II N\panel\

Open panel.cfg in a text editor, then go to the [Window02] section and edit it as follows:

[Window02]

Background_color=0,0,0

size_mm=456,378

window_size_ratio=1.000

position=8

visible=0

ident=GPS_PANEL

window_size= 0.378,0.456

window_pos= 0.000, 0.520

gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0,456,378

You may adjust window_size to your liking, just try to keep the aspect ratio ;-)

Repeat the above in the panel.1 subdirectory.

Hope it helps!

I wish that was possible... There is usually some degree of customization you can make using panel.cfg, but in this particular plane, you cannot use the bottom portion of the avionics bay without modifying the actual 3D model (and the upper portion cannot be modified due to the use of 3D knobs).

A new C172 is coming from Real Air, but there is no preview yet to show what model or avionics setup will be simulated. I don't want to bash Carenado, but the 172 is really not their best product (don't get me started on the radios/audio panel, I had to modify gauge XMLs to actually make things work).

Besides, I see I'm not the only one who can't stand the (hideous) default panel texture ;-)

Yeah! As you can see I have made some changes to the radios as well. I also installed a black panel 'cos that cream one was awful. I have to say I like the plane as it's a sim version of my training aircraft. However, I'm spending a lot more time in the Carenado Bonanza and Ants Eaglet as the Bonanza is more complex and the Eaglet is just "fun".

Wow. That panel color looks really good! Is there any chance you could tell me how you changed it? I hate that white ugly color!

If you have a 2d GNS430 (ala RXP) you can replace the whole audio/radio stack with it, the 430 will go right at the top (above the 3d knobs), and use the RXP!plate file to cover the ugliness left over, will still have the 3d knobs poking through and the night lighting looks gross, but you have a gps in the panel, might work with the GPS295

takes some mucking about with sizing, but is doable

Would it be possible to throw an RXP GNS 430W on top with the GTX 327 directly underneath it, followed by the RXP plate?

RXP GNS 430 it would be great

Anyway, is possible someone reup links to dme and VORILS? pls

I also changed the white radios to black, Now I have a full black panel.

Is it possible to share black radios?
