July 17, 201213 yr Hi, thanks for the help.it's appreciated. The reason why i never used STARs is because in real life you don't always know what star you're going to get so to plan a star ahead is not so realistic for me ? just saying. I thought that the reason i stuffed up was that i didn't get the altitdes right while planning ? I really have no idea why the darn atc goes to sleep and hardly ever tells me to descend on time.
July 17, 201213 yr Options If your happy with that, close out of options and select the Sids & Stars button Now edit the sids & stars exactly as shown here. Type in KDEN in the white box and press enter. Remember to make sure you have selected FSX database. Now for the arrival For the arrival, copy exactly what I have entered here, including runway landing and take off options. You will notice I also have entered a FAF for Rnwy 24R and a missed app alt of 2000ft Now for the vertical profile. (Next post) this flight was quite easy to set up. There are some departures like in the UK which have altitude restrictions which you can place in the vertical profile page. A feature the ATC proggys like RC4 cannot do. Let me know how it goes, I am sure there are others who have better knowledge, but hope this is enough to get you started. I found this software had a big learning curve, but once I mastered it, I stopped using RC4. 99% of flights using PFE are successful, and that is on par with RC4. In regards to a change of runway, don't be too concerned, as PFE is quite clever, and it will vector you to the changed runway, even though you have set up a star during pre flight. here is a tip, you can set up sids & stars for all runways, so if there is a runway change, your good. PFE is a great ATC program, but if the flight planning is incorrect or incomplete, it will spit the dummy. Some complain it takes too long to set up, I have to disagree with that, as in real life, I'm sure pilots take more than 5 mins in the briefing room. I actually made sure my planning was fine. I basically used fsuild and made sure that the altitudes i got from it were more or less like the ones pfe would suggest. Everything looked fine but somehow pfe would tell me to start descending like 20 miles form the airport.ATC basically disregarded the TD pf200 itself created- The only thing I never bothered with were the Sids/stars.
July 17, 201213 yr Just wanted to add a couple of comments, especially regarding altitude restrictions, PFE does this really well, currently I am flying out of East Midlands (EGNX) and PFE gave my initial climb out of 9000 as per the sid, and resumed navigation at the exit waypoint. Brilliant. And as a former long term user of RC4, I would have to say that PFE has surpassed it. Pity that JD has put RC5 into the bin, as RC4 is in need of an update badly, as it is getting very long in the tooth. Hope it works better for you now.
