July 14, 201213 yr I got this from Microsoft and it doesn't make any sense to me. Uninstall: Microsoft Flight Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace Delete the following folders (you find them by pasting the following into the start menu): %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Xlive\DLC %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Xlive\updates Then re-download the Client via http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/downloadclient . Then re-download Flight via the Steam link http://store.steampowered.com/app/203850 Thanks, Why would Microsoft want me to go to Steam to get Flight? I'm going to hold of on re-Installing Flight till I find out more from someone that has done a re-Install. I had to restore my computer to a point BEFORE I had Flight, and now I'd like to get it back. And hope I don't have to pay for everything again. *I do have backups of all the flight files when I had it working. Any help would be appreciated.
July 14, 201213 yr Why would they ask you to do that? It sounds like you have some kind of problem and asked for help, and they suspect it may have something to do with your installation of the GFWL version. Trying the other version may work for you. As long as you sign in with the same GFWL account, you will not need to buy anything again.
July 14, 201213 yr Hi stanfitz, It's personal preference really, you can join the Steam revolution, content does appear to be released on Game for Windows Marketplace (GfWM) several days before the Steam Release, however if you're willing to wait a bit longer Steam does have special deals from time to time so you can pick up content cheaper there. I have a Steam account but choose to download through GfWM anyway. As for the reinstall, not sure what issues you're having best to post them in the thread I started unless anybody has any better ideas? We'll do our best to answer any questions you may have. http://forum.avsim.n...d-installation/ If you do choose steam, you certainly don't need to pay again, the main application is free remember - and for the DLC thats what the Redeem code is for, have a look at the link below for an explaination for using the redeem functionality https://news.microso...m-and-gfwl.aspx If you're still having issues, the steam forum is also a good place to put some questions http://forums.steamp...play.php?f=1376 Finally if all else fails you can email MS directly. [email protected] Cheers, Dave.
July 15, 201213 yr Author I want to thank both parties that responded to my plea for help. I now have Flight working again, and have all my content. It even found all my records (well almost all). I had to start at level 0, and can do all the missions again. But at least my profile shows everthing I've done (like 146 aerocaches) Thanks guys you were a big help.

The Flight Team had me do the same thing when the last update broke the game on my system. Since the procedure didn't trash my Career directories, when I re-installed I still had all my missions and stats as they were before. When I bought Alaska, I bought it thru GFWL. HOWEVER, the Steam version was very buggy on my system, frequently crashing on startup. For different reasons, I disabled Anti-Aliasing, and the startup crashes have since stopped. Weird... There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
July 15, 201213 yr Seems like the only thing they left out was formatting your hard drive. Sent from my SGH-T679 using Tapatalk 2
July 16, 201213 yr I bought Alaska through Steam. I have now one installation on my hard drive and one on Steam. Seems to be double, but thats only if my internetconnection fails. I then can still fly.
July 16, 201213 yr I bought Alaska through Steam. I have now one installation on my hard drive and one on Steam. Seems to be double, but thats only if my internetconnection fails. I then can still fly. The Steam version still downloads all the content locally... it doesn't require a constant connection to use it. If you have both versions installed, they even share the same DLC folder (specified in your GFWL Marketplace). The Steam version of Flight is merely a front-end for the Microsoft version. This is why buying DLC from Steam requires you to enter a code into Flight... the code is telling Microsoft you bought DLC and MS then delivers it to you. If you are running the Steam version of Flight, you can buy your DLC from either Steam or GFWL. There's no need to keep both copies installed.
July 16, 201213 yr Right, so if i am for instance at a LAN situation, with computers connected to a switch , i only have to connect my computer briefly to say a cellphone with wifi to connect to the internet and then start to fly.

You don't even need to do that. If Flight does not detect an internet connection it still loads up just fine. You simply don't have access to things like aerocaches, multiplayer, and other "online" events. All of your purchased DLC is stored locally and will be available.
