Slightly off topic,

I was wondering if people had thoughts on PCIe 2 vs. 3 for FSX (did a search, couldn't find any useful info). From what I have read the latter requires ivy bridge, which would be more expensive of course and also as people have said it heats up more with overclocking. Very interested because this kind of defines my build (sandy bridge with GTX 570 or ivy with GTX 670).

Thanks in advance!

You are aware that sandy bridge + 670 is the best option right? Ivy bridge CPUs have terrible IHSs so they overheat easily when overclocked, it's better to buy an i5 2500k since it's not really worse than a 3570k and you can overclock it without it overheating so easily.

GTX 670 equals to GTX 580 just so you know.

Go with the IB bridge and GTX 670..this whole Over heat Bull of IB is just buill. Here is my experience. You can OC to 4.5 or 4.6 using 1.25 v without any overheating issue. There is a point at which it would overheat. like when you go beyound 3.7ghz at over 1.3v.

IB 4.6Ghz with a single monitor is simply awesome. I believe its equivalent of SB 5ghz. OC SB over 5 ghz you would run into overheat issue too.

With a fast memory you would reap additional benefits of IB. No one has yet proved the PCI-e 3 benefits... but I suspect its there. Take that as a bonus.

In tne beginning I was very skeptical about IB too. But not anymore. 2700K ain;t cheap either.

i5 3570K with a bundled MSI Z77 motherboard = $480 bucks.

i7 990X = $1029.99

I don't know dude but please tell me you didn't open that 990!

Ya at this point I think that's what I'll do. Off to Microcenter tomorrow. I'll update my blog once the build starts for anyone who is interested.

Thanks for the advice.
