I just updated to 10 so I guess that wouldn't work. I know that would be ideal, but with other options on the horizon I don't want to put all my eggs in one expensive basket only to end up switching to something else soon after. I decided to go the steam edition route. I figure this is very straight forward but any tips to make the move easier?

If i remember correctly you need hidden folders turned on which is no big deal. I'm just worried that things like Pro ATC X, ASN, PFPX, etc might not work with it, but as you say it's likely just a matter of pointing these programs to the right place and everything should be ok. Another benefit for 3 is that the steam overlay would allow me to use the internet while in flight which is kinda cool.

Well, the inevitable happened. My plucky 250GB SSD has officially run out of space (due largely in part to my insatiable appetite for add ons...). A new 500GB SSD is already on its way, the real question is what to do software wise once the new drive arrives. As I see it there are several options: 1. Using the appropriate software make a disk image of my current drive to the new one and run windows and FSX-MS as before, I don't really like this because if something goes wrong my computer essentially becomes a very large and expensive door stop 2. Keep windows on the old drive and do a clean install of FSX-MS on the new drive, I like this idea the most but I remember reading that MS no longer is activating copies of FSX and I am afraid I won't be able to re-install. Also I recently moved and there is a good chance my original FSX box was lost in that process (I will have to go digging...) 3. I have a copy of FSX-SE which I have not installed (purchased when it was on sale in case of a rainy day), I have messed around with add ons of other steam games and am not a fan of the file tree I would have to deal with. Furthermore it is my understanding that some older add ons do not play nice though this may be due to user installation errors rather than real compatibility issues 4. Make the leap to P3D. This is the most expensive option as I have and enjoy a variety of PMDG products, though this is something I have been thinking about more seriously as the gap between FSX and P3D widens I'm curious to see what you guys think/if there are any other ways of going about this. Thanks! PK (PS Mods I thought this was the best forum for this question but please feel free to move it as needed)

Ask Dovetail Games about DTG Flight School & Flight Simulator
airman17 replied to DTG Martin's topic in Hangar Chat
Thanks for keeping us in the loop! Will ATC be along the lines of default FSX/P3D or can we expect better IFR capabilities (SIDs, STARs, improved vectoring, emergencies)? PK -
Having followed those approach lights myself countless times it's hard to see something like this happen so close to home. Prayers to the families.

ANZ Hobbit! Got to ride her BNE -> AUK in September (we were on the reg ANZ livery over the pacific) No idea if you've flown them before but ANZ, especially on the 300ER, was by far the best airline experience I have ever had (better than Lufthansa business, and we flew ANZ economy!) -PK

Can anyone suggest some North East airports for my tour?
airman17 replied to Q_flyer's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
+1 for KLCI. Flew there IRL, absolutely fantastic views on approach. I'd try it in the sim but my computer is right now over 8000 nm away (8486 but who's counting). -

Always preferred G Minor (Sarcasm  Thanks for the great post! ) -
I use progressive. I feel its not that different from having a FO help you out with a chart which I imagen happens from time to time at the majors if the captain is unfamiliar with the airport (If I'm going to an unfamiliar airport IRL with a knowledgeable pilot in the right seat I'm always more than happy to have an extra set of eyes even on the ground) . Also I find default ATC can be wacky, sending you the wrong way down taxiways ment mostly for one direction. This means that with some major addon airports (FSDT LAX I have found) all the taxiway signs are in the wrong direction and I would have no idea where I was even with a chart.

Visual vs GPS navigation for private GA flying?
airman17 replied to Fox-Bat's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
In the beginning I was taught pilotage/DED reckoning. I upgraded to a GNS 430 towards the end of my training/cross country flying. I'll have my route programed in, mostly for groundspeed, time, and distance estimates. At the end of they day I find GPS adds to my situational awareness, but you'll never catch me without a current sectional open, marked up with waypoints (and of course the flight plan I worked out before getting to the airport!). -
I know its a stretch, but the Tecnam P2006T would be amazing. http://www.p2006t.com/

I briefly searched the forum and found nothing. I have a bunch of World of Ai packages, including lufthansa mainline, lufthansa regional, and lufthansa cargo installed, however for some reason Frankfurt airport is completely void of any AI traffic. I have Ray Smith's awesome Frankfurt/Main v1.1 - EDDF - Germany installed, but removing that and using the default EDDF did not help. The .bgl files containing the flight plans looked ok to me, but i'm not 100% sure as I don't usually do traffic stuff myself. Just curious if anyone has seen this and if theres an answer out there. -pk

Processor for the NGX
airman17 replied to travis26's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etc
Ya at this point I think that's what I'll do. Off to Microcenter tomorrow. I'll update my blog once the build starts for anyone who is interested. Thanks for the advice. -
Processor for the NGX

Slightly off topic, I was wondering if people had thoughts on PCIe 2 vs. 3 for FSX (did a search, couldn't find any useful info). From what I have read the latter requires ivy bridge, which would be more expensive of course and also as people have said it heats up more with overclocking. Very interested because this kind of defines my build (sandy bridge with GTX 570 or ivy with GTX 670). Thanks in advance! -Phil Kretschmer
