July 23, 201213 yr Male to male audio cable, a sound recorder and UAL's channel 9 connects in to the pilot-ATC transmissions through the flight (if the crew enables it). How did you capture ATC audio? Not quite, put headphones over my cameras mic! - Luke Pabari
July 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Not quite, put headphones over my cameras mic! Haha - fair enough. I was just going with a generic thought of one of the better ways to get it done, but if it works...right? Kyle Rodgers

July 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member That's a good way but I'm simply to lazy to sync it all up ha! I always just cough or something that you can hear on both streams. Makes it really easy and is pretty unobtrusive. Kyle Rodgers
July 24, 201213 yr I always just cough or something that you can hear on both streams. Makes it really easy and is pretty unobtrusive. Yeah good thing to do! I've just ordered my GoPro for training, luckily I can plug a cable straight into it to record comms! - Luke Pabari
July 24, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yeah good thing to do! I've just ordered my GoPro for training, luckily I can plug a cable straight into it to record comms! GoPro, eh? Nice. I'm all Contour, but both get the job done. For what it's worth, I've been recording externally again. The convenience of a single data stream is nice for simple post processing, but the audio data takes space I could otherwise be using for video data, and it also takes some of the battery life (an issue when I don't fly aircraft with an accessory plug) Kyle Rodgers

July 25, 201213 yr Los Pilotos (plural I note), it is really appreciated that you share your knowledge with us on this forum. We are keen simmers, and though some of us are also real world pilots it is down at the GA end, your comments are gold to us. And Luke thanks for sharing this really instructive video. KInd regards, Ian McPhail

July 25, 201213 yr They do do the odd augmented 8-10 hour sector to eg Beijing in which case we just use a 1st class set but that's more the exception than the rule. Lucky things, all we have is a business class seat up front. We used have a CRC in some of our A330's back when we did west coast USA flights to SFO and LAX but they were dropped and now we're stuck with the seat. Though in fairness our longest sector would be MCO which is only about 9 hours a push... Still though, miss those CRC's... Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
