July 23, 201213 yr The results are definitely good! :) The smoothness is also given by the speed at which FSX is downloading the whole area, especially when you are switching area you should not see any loss of performace. Let me know if it all goes well! ;)
July 23, 201213 yr Author Ok Cloud, thanks. Consider those results are achieved using a vertex3 on sata2, in my opinion is quite good too. Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
July 23, 201213 yr Actually riccardo74, there is also a way to make it faster and larger (as capacity). Some motherboards adopt a "Hybrid" RAID configuration to use both SSD and HDD where the SSD is working as a huge "buffer" memory. The PRO is that instead of having just 120GB you have maybe 1TB or more of very fast HDD, the downside is that if anyone of the disks fail you loose your data. Just so you know. Indeed very good performances!
July 24, 201213 yr Author Thank you very much Cloud, but I remain on this side, no more modifications. FSX runs smooth, better than before I suppose as I have increased some Display settings: autogen and terrain details. I also have 1TB HD for photoscenery. I didn't do any biois setup. I just hooked up the SSD to the MB and started the system and installed the OS and FSX. It all worked out properly. I never had to set anything on the BIOS. My question is, IS there a way to tether my 1 TB HD to any of my SSD so I get the Hybrid thingi going? Is it too late now? July 24, 201213 yr Manny, is not too late but it would take a bit of patience to manage it. Watching at your configuration with 2 SSD and 1 HDD I wouldn't touch anything!!! Better than this you can't go any further! (actually yes, by having a 3rd SSD for your photoscenery...but let's try not to exaggerate!) My suggestion is KISS (Keep It Super Simple). They way you did it is very good indeed!
July 24, 201213 yr I have two Samsung 830 SSDs. 1 128G for the c: drive with OS and another 256G for FSX. I also have 1TB HD for photoscenery. That is a really strange coincidence. I have orderd those exact SSD's, in those exact sizes, for my new FSX machine. Even more coincidentally, I plan to run the 128GB drive as the OS drive, and the 256GB drive as the FSX drive. I had no idea you were running that configuration, but hey, it's the config I decided I should be running. I almost went with a Crucial M4 for the OS drive, but two things kept me away from this; a) the Samsung 830 has slightly higher performance, and longer MTBF B) I did not feel like tweaking a Samsung AND a Sandforce controller As Cloudkid said.
