Auto throttle

Featured Replies

Hi.

i am still new to the 737-800, and would like some help. i have programmed the FMC but when i take off i stall. i set RTO into position and depress the TOGA switch. i dont get the thrust that i need and then stall. should i select the auto throttle before i press the TOGA switch? i dont see any tutorals on take off.

Steve

The autothrottle switch should be on before you TOGA. RTO is only for the brakes during a Rejected Take Off.

Hi

A/T should be selected prior to entering the runway. With regard to TOGA, advance the throttles to around 40% N1, then press TOGA.

Prior to this have you selected the flaps setting and confirmed the V speeds in the FMC? Also make sure you have entered V2 in the IAS/MACH window on the MCP.

I hope this helps a little?

Good luck

all worked well, took off perfectly. i did have other problems though, with my flight plan selected a SID via the FMC, no problems the aircraft followed the SID. but when i approached the STAR it took me right to the runway. obviously no too high as i am set for the aproach hight. if i have the ILS selected should the STAR not take me to the begining of the aproach run?

The STAR will take you to the end of the STAR, then whatever else you have entered into the flight plan. If you have the ILS approach final approach fix (FAF) or transition loaded into your flight plan it will take you there. If the ILS approach was not selected and just the runway alone then it will take you to the runway directly. The flight plan needs to be made/monitored/edited by you, check the flight plan and make sure the waypoints you wanted for the approach were in the plan.

Prior to installing SP1C and Fs2Crew (voice) I used to do all of this for takeoff and the NGX easily picked up speed for rotation at v1. After that the position of the joystick throttles didn't matter as throttle was controlled by the FMC.

Now however I find that in order to reach V1 speed after I turn on TOGA, I need to continue increasing the joystick throttles (Cyborg X) further to almost 80% and speed still picks up slower. In flight I now have to monitor my joystic throttle position because if they are too high I overspeed and stall if they are too low. All this even though A/T is on and speed is supposedly being regulated by FMC.

Is there a setting that I toggled inadvertently in the options? I am still learning Fs2crew but this behavior occurs even without activating the program.

Hi

This sounds like a conflict between assignments. Check the assignment in PMDG for the A/T and then check the assignment in Fs2Crew, I think you'll find they are sharing the same assignment. Uncheck the option in Fs2Crew and see if that works.

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion . It was actually the A/T option that needed to be checked / unchecked (can't remember which) in the PMDG Setup menus.

Probably Throttle overrides Autothrottle. In that mode your actual throttle (Physical one in your hand) can move the thrust value and override what the AutoThrottle wants. The real aircraft has a throttle that is moved around by the autothrottle, and pilots can push it around a bit if they want to. In FS, if you use this you will need to set up a null zone in your throttle and have the throttle position in this null zone if you don't want to move the throttle manually. Of course turning it off stops this happening.

Realistic way would be to have a proper motorized throttle that keeps the thrust/throttle lever position in sync with the auto-throttle, but assuming you arn't building your own cockpit simulator, you probably don't have one of these.
