Simple question about NGX fps drop

Featured Replies

Hey my computer is about 3 days old (8 GB RAM @ 1600mhz, GTX 570, i7 2700K @ 3,5ghz). My first addon was REX (yesterday) and all was fine. 60 fps stable(target fps set to 60) at Arlanda (ESSA) with default scenery. Today i finally bought the NGX, same settings and location as above just add the NGX, im getting around 20 fps while taxing around, 25 fps on the runway and 30 in the air.

My question is now; is a 40 fps drop NORMAL for just adding the NGX?

I have no airport scenerys what so ever just the REXE + NGX. All sliders are set to Ultra high (car traffic 20%). Im going to change that but still, 40 fps drop for just the NGX? Ive read somewhere the NGX is supposed to be fps friendly? Is that B U L L S H I T ?

Sadly overclocking is not an option for me, never done it and dont want to risk anything :(

Any help is VERY appreciated!

EDIT; (Who the f*** is changing my post? Thank you very much ... :( !)

Yes, the "say' the NGX is FPS friendly, but we all know it really isn't. People are buying entire new systems just to be able to run the NGX.

Anyway; the only real way to get more FPS is to up your GHz. 3.5 just isn't quite enough. I would say anything over 4 Ghz is safe and good for the NGX. If you are afraid then take your computer to a techinitian and get it overclocked.

And have you looked into tweaks for the fsx.cfg?

Its normal. The NGX is exceptionally system heavy

Lock your frames @ 30FPS and they wont drop no more! Smoothness more than FPS.

Hey thanks for your answer. I havent tweaked it yet. I will. Any good recommendation ?

Have you followed all of the recommendations in the introducton documentation? If you have a nvidia card, have you follow Ryan's tweaking guide in the general forum?

As mentioned 30FPS-32FPS is all you need.

No ill look into that ASAP. I have the GTX 570. Thx

:(

NGX is frame friendly compared to older high fidelity complex aircraft especially given it's complexity and high resolution/poly count. but compared to default FSX aircraft it will chew up a lot of frames.

Saying that your system still has tonnes of extra performance to give with tweeks and overclock

Along with Nvidia tweaks and OC you will gain a lot.

25-30fps is still pretty good for FSX

I would be really happy if i had some or any airport scenery with that fps. But we are talking about default scenery

Question about hyperthreading. Is it activated by default on every i7`?

+ EDIT; found the manuals, start with the Introduction i guess ^^

Follow the documentation and the guides and you will be good to go. Remeber that airport sceneries vary signficantly when it comes to being FPS friendly.

Yeh, first ill get Mega Airport Stockhlm Arlanda by Aerosoft (my home airport) then London Heathrow v2 by UK2000. I were going to get JFK by FSDT but i dont know if thats such a good idea now ..

I never really find that scenery affects my overall performance that much.

Imagine Simulations scenery is very good and extremely FPS good. There are of coarse downsides to imagine simulation though.

I tend to get between 17 and 24 at heavy airports and have it locked to 30. Even when it is running at 17 it is very smooth and really I came to learn that's all that matters. As long as you do not see stutters then you won't notice the frame rate.

Setting everything up right though is key and takes some time. I have a lot of add ons so I am surprised I get that kind of fps with all that is going on. 100% UT2 traffic, scenery, airports, ngx and much more. Neither have I overclocked my i7 2600K yet. Keep meaning to get some cooling for the job but just not got around to it.

There are 2 things which I do avoid however as they seem to stop the show. Road traffic. I keep it off except at add on airports as it just seems to bring my system to it's knees and well honestly it kind of looks rubbish sometimes. The other thing I notice is that if I have the water settings too high I get intermittent fps drops. I still have it quite high but it seems that if I set it so the clouds are reflected now and then for reasons I can't fathom it gets very choppy. I only found out it was the water setting causing this because I saw someone post that suggestion to someone else here and for me it was the cause. Been meaning to look deeper into this.

As far as the NGX goes I believe it really is FPS friendly considering what is going on and compared to many other add ons including pmdg ones.

Stick with it I say and these forums are the right place to be regarding suffering problems and getting help. Some good heads in here.
