Can anyone shed some light on FSMap?

Featured Replies

I noticed today that FSMap by Aerosoft is 40% off (+10% Tuesday discount). I have heard a little about this product but could not find a good review anywhere. Does anyone who has this program care to chime in with some thoughts? I figure at $22, if it is halfway decent, it might not be a bad purchase. Thanks in advance for your help!

I too would like to hear an answer on this question. It is a very good question as I find the FSX map lacking.

I've used it. It's pretty much a moving map. It has the ability to run on a different computer using Wide Client. It also has a internal gauge for cockpit use.

It requires some effort to get it set up and working.

You can see more at the autor's forum.

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to add my thoughts as well;

FSMap is a moving map application that can be used as an internal gauge or using the application itself. I think this application is a real class act. The developer (Thomas Molitor) is a very professional programmer with many years of experience. You can see that with the quality of his work compared to other add-on's. FS Flight Keeper is another application that he wrote that is top notch.

I find that the internal gauge to the cockpit is much more feature rich than the desktop application. Myself I use the desktop application to troubleshoot issues with loading maps.

You can use any map that you find off the internet for whatever area you fly in. You will be required to set up your maps to use with FS. However, there are a lot of exported maps that people have set up and shared. So it should be easy to find VFR/IFR/General Operations maps for you favorite location.

Thomas does not program FS add-ons for money as the primary reason. He develops when he has the time. So there are long stretches of time between updates. He's usually very good at responding to questions on his support forum.

I'd recommend this application along with FS Flight Keeper. Both are written well and feature rich. 5 out of 4 stars to be sure.

Thanks,

-Matt
