This maybe old news for many and perhaps not required if using some other payware texture package, but for sometime the default lake shore textures bothered me. Yesterday I set out to improve the default lake shore textures and found these great looking replacements.

You can download them here.

 

1. Download the package " Lennart's FS2004 Replacement Textures Part 2, Summer Textures " file name: "Lennarts_textures_Summer_su.zip"

2, Unzip the file and you'll find "Summer_su.exe" which is a unzip executable. When running ""Summer_su.exe"" browse to a different folder other then your FS9 folder and extract the texture files.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the unzipped texture files and find these bmp files:

l_tanrock_ns.bmp, l_tanrock_ns_hw.bmp, o_blacksand_ls.bmp, o_blacksand_ls_hw.bmp

4. Backup your original four files (listed in step 3) which are found here by default: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

5. Replace your default bmp's with Lennart's four textures and enjoy the new look.

Maybe its just me, but I cant really see much difference?

New news for me, thanks a lot RJ.

 

I found the package "FS2004 Glacier, crevasses, perpetual snow replacement textures" by Eric Guichard from the same website very helpful, too; while Lennart's mountain textures are too stony for my taste.

It appears to add a shore line "effect", similar to what "Ultimate Terrain" produces for shore-lines, replacing the default..
