August 3, 201213 yr From Gizmodo: A Boeing 737-200 had to abort a landing after heavily damaging its right wing. The impact was so harsh that it ripped off part of the wing and damaged a flap. The plane recovered at the last second, when it seemed that a fatal impact was imminent. Skip to minute 2:11 to see the moment of the landing. You will see the plane tilting heavily to the right, moving to the left of the runway as if it were being pushed by extreme crosswind. You can then see the bump when the wing hits the runway. At that moment, the pilot throttles up and starts going up and to the right in a very dangerous maneuver. The Sky Airlines Boeing 737 was landing at La Serena airport in Chile when the accident happened. There's no official cause yet. The weather was good and there were no extreme crosswinds at the time. Talking to a Chilean newspaper, the general manager for company gave this explanation: The fog was about to arrive, but it descended very quickly. The pilot saw the runway and the only thing he had to do was to go by the inside [of the runway] because the fog was coming from the other side. He had to perform a go around and he was doing that when the fog combined with the sun and everything turned white. Needless to say, this doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Especially when the video shows no fog on the runway and the reported visibility was 19,685 feet (6,000 meters) at the time of the approach. After the aborted landing, the pilot performed a go around and decided to finally head to Copiapó – Chamonate airport, where it landed without further incidents. Thank the flying spaghetti monster for that. The airline is now under investigation because this is just the last one of a series of incidents. August 3, 201213 yr Author You can see the damage here.... I have seen another video of You Tube where someone managed to tape the exact moment of impact...the aeroplane came 45 degrees offset and dipped the wing to align...they were very lucky. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
