ORBX scenery installation

Featured Replies

Hello,

i have the GEX North America and the PILOTs FS Global ultimate the Americas installed and now Im planning to buy the ORBX USA Canada Northwest. Will I face problems installing it? Will there be some conflicts with my other installed scenery?

Thank you in advance

No the Orbx will go on top of those other scenery layers in the library.

Which could be a problem. What if he had other airport sceneries....then Orbx would sit on top of those.

Which is not a specific issue to Orbx since the last installed scenery is goes on top... but its up to us to move something like an airport scenery over Orbx.

The issue comes later on when you have everything set, then use one of Orbx tool (I forget what its called) and select (FSX vs Orbx) , its like a new installation, it moves the previous installed Orbx which could be in bottom by now, suddely move on top of everything else.

When I installed Alderney Island scenery, since the default texture files are modified by Orbx... FSX would simply not start. Alderney forum explained I had to start the orbx tool to put the default structures back in so Alderney can run. Alderney folks also have a provistion to merge their texture with the default structure and hinted somewhere other Vendors need to do this (Wink Wink Orbx?).

Quote from Alderney help desk

"Please note: If you have some other sceneries that rely on changes made to the autogen files by the 3rd party developer you will not be able to use that scenery at the same time as the ES sceneries. However we provide a program here called MergES which is designed to enable you to combine autogen files from multiple authors. MergES is installed via ESI. "

I have Fly Tampa's Seattle and Flight scenery KPDX etc on top of ORbx PNW and then moved Orbx's Portland city over Flight scenerie's KPDX.

When you have so many addons, moving its position all over the scenery hierachy creates lots of issues.

But Orbx is an awesome scenery.. so not sure how to avoid this unecessary problem of Orbx shifting its scenery position all over and then the user having to learn the technical aspects of how all this works. Because if you don't know how all this works and behind the scene, these sceneries get shoved all over the place, you would feel like pulling your hear out and throw your PC out the window. Thats why its very important to shield the user from the completity of all of this.

Thank you both for your quick responce but now what is the solution? I am not the removing, tweaking, files specialist.

@ Manny. I don't know if I understood well, but according to your answer every time I run FSX I must go to the scenery library and move up or down the ORBX scenery from the list?

No. Not at all.. Its not that bad. LOL :)

When you install Orbx, it would install on top of everything else you have. For the most part, you should be fine and dandy. Unless you have any specific airports for the area covered by Orbx that you may want to move that specific airport on top. IF you don't, then you are good to go and there is no need to mess with your scenery every time you load up FSX

But when you end up with lots and lots of addons from different vendors eventually like some of us nuts have, then there maybe some issues like I mentioned.

So for now don't worry... Enjoy Orbx..its one hellava scenery...or sceneries. They are transforming FSX into "as real as it gets" very well.

Thank you Manny I am looking forward to get on my hands this scenery. My next target is to get Australia and NZ

Guys, the Orbx scenery comes with a configuration manager that lets you set where in the order of your installed sceneries the FTX stuff will reside. Once you set the insertion point, you can all all the stuff you want above or below the Orbx files and it'll stay that way.

Hmmm..didn;t know that. OK.. This weekend.. need to figure out how to do that.. Thanks Bill

It's in FTX Central, at the top under Tools --> Scenery Library Configuration --> FTX Scenery Library Insertion Points.

Bill, what exactly do you mean by 'once you set the insertion point'? This is the first time i install ORBX scenery and i know that i may sound a bit stupid with all my questions.

What he means is, if you have 200 sceneries (say.. 75 FSX defaults and you have 125 added on top.) and now you install a bunch of Orbx. It would add somewhere like say...10 scenery on top totalling 210.the position for orbx is 201-210. right.

After a while you install sceneries that are numbered 211-250 on top.

I had alleged that the position of the Orbx 201-210 kept moving under certain conditions. Bill said there is a way to avoid that by using that tool/menu path to anchor the 10 Orbx scernery 201-210 always or lets us anchor it somewhere else if we so want and it would stay put.

Hello

If I may ask a question...I have Orbx PNW plus various Orbx add on airports within that region which are all at the top of my FSX scenery library. If I were to add on another third party dev airport within the PNW region, exactly where should the insertion point be set inside FTX Central so that it blends nicely with the Orbx scenery?

There wont be problems. If you have third party scenery that you want to run instead of orbx, but in the same area, I'd place the new scenery above orbx in the scenery library.

I've got GEX + UTX USA, yet I've got countless airport sceneries with custom backgrounds. As long as they sit above UTX/GEX there's no issues. It wouldn't be any different for orbx.

Ok guys, I installed the ORBX Pacific NW and it is a treat to the eye! Unbelievable! It is friendly to the frame rates too!

So to summit up: An airport addon from a different vendor on that area, to blend nicely on ORBX PNW, this same airport should be above the PNW on the list?

this same airport should be above the PNW on the list?

Or more precisely, set FTXCentral to insert the entries "below" it.
