Have tried downloading J-C twice now and each time it fails to complete, but reports 152MB of 152MB downloaded:

*Unconfirmed 788034.crdownload*

Anyone else had this problem. The new mech. downloaded OK!

Hi Lin

You're the only person to report this so far! Not sure what this error means. I will ask our Library team if they can shed any light on it.

Standby!

Update...sent e-mail awaiting reply

Thanks Alpha117.

Tried it again since last message and still same thing happens. It's as if the download is waiting to be signed off or something before becoming accessible.

Not on FSim 'puter atm, so can't test the other voice yet, but praise FS++ for the excellent upgrade service.

Perhaps you're using a "download manager" program which is causing this. Try downloading directly.

Cheers

Hi Lincrun.....

I downloaded it and had no problems.

Indeed, if you are using a "download manager" - that can cause big probs.

Good luck!

All best,

Ray Landolt (Blackbird)

Hi Gerald and Ray,

Thanks for replies, but I was not using any dl manager. In fact, I tried d/loading from the hyperlink and again (separately) from the file archive to my laptop via Chrome. The third attempt stalled showing *1 sec to go* but result was just the same... even after more than one hour it was incomplete.

Are you sure Jean Claude was successful with and released from his training? He is certainly going to find himself stood on a carpet when he does finally show up; failing to report for duty when duly rostered is a serious company offence, (except when it's me). And a typical Gallic shrug is not going to cut it this time, either!

Incidentally, it has stopped raining today, so I'll go out to hangar in the garden later and try again there.

Cheerio

Lin

Yeah, I have the same problem!

Don't feel quite so lonely now, but sorry for you at he same time, bkwood20.

Thanks lincrun. Im sure its something simple!

Yes, but it is often the simple problems which take a long time to spot.

Hello again, Lincrun.......The Ol' Blackbird (Ray Landolt) here.......

Just a thought - in your earlier post you said......"I tried d/loading from the hyperlink and again (separately) from the file archive to my laptop via Chrome."

Do you mean Google Chrome? If so - I'm going to go out on a limb here - maybe someone can back me up - I've heard that folks sometimes get messed up downloads with Google Chrome. As I don't use the Chrome - I cannot be sure - but it's what I've heard..........forget where, though.....sorry.

Don't know if this helps or not........ Download probs are a pain, for sure........

Good luck.....hope you can sort it out.

All best,

Ray L (Blackbird)

To be honest, I've had messed up downloads on EVERY browser I've ever used. Chrome's no better or worse than any others.

What it does do, like most other browsers these days, is cache any pages or downloads you access to try to make them quicker to access in the future. What that means is that if you have a bad download, when you try and re-download it winds up looking at the bad cached copy rather than really downloading a fresh version. (gross oversimplification, but that's basically the gist of it)

So I'd suggest clearing your browser cache before trying to re-download. In Chrome it's the spanner button followed by Tools..Clear Browsing Data. Of all the options that come up you need to select "Empty the cache", though having a clearout of all the other options periodically is a good idea. Change the timescale to before you tried your first download, though again I generally just set it to "from the beginning of time" in order to have a good clearout.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ray, Chris,

Thanks very much for the sound advice re: Google Chrome. I do use CCleaner on a regular basis, but will make a more determined effort now.

Incidentally, FS++ (Bless 'em) sent me an email yesterday with another link, so when I get out to my shed (shack - I think you guys are both States-side), I am back on it.

Again, many thanks

Good morning from Beeeeeeeutiful Southern New hampshire, USA!!!! The Ol' Blackbird is here for a moment.......

Dr V - yes, indeed, i've also had "crashes" or corrupted info on downloads - though I must confess - not often. I have always stayed with MS' IExplorer..... I know, many "Experts" advise against it........ (if I'm not mistaken, Firefox is heavily recommended......but, IE has been ok for me, so I stay with it.)

Cache clearing - good advice for sure. I also use Ccleaner for this kind of task - seems to work well.

Lin - yes - FS++ have been most helpful to everyone using their software. Mr. Reilly and Co. are very in tune with Customer requests, and fixing of issues, improvements, etc.. Great to see a company support its customers so well. BRAVO!!!!!!!

Bravo also to Clive (Alpha117) for all his help....... some great folks in this community called AVSIM.

Well, Gents (and any Ladies tuned in!), I'm off to fix some shelving, then do some flying. Lata!!!

Good luck, Lin!

All Best,

Ray Landolt (Blackbird)

I use CCleaner too, it's a great way to keep things lean and clean, and another good alternative way to clear the cache.

I say old chap, steady on! Stout hearted Son of Albion* here, flying out of EGCC.

Dr V

(*well, half Albion, half Erin to be precise. It was a conflicted childhood. But the important thing is I'm on the right side of the Pond, well away from all those frightful colonial chappies**)

(** No offence intended to frightful colonial chappies, who I'm told are awfully nice once you get to know them.)
