I've seen some real brain-farts in my days, but this one really takes the cake.

I can just see the thought process on the flight deck: "So, looks like there are some protests going on near the airport in Beirut, TO SYRIA!!! The civil war there is just a bit of a misunderstanding they're having with each other, not like that little protest going on down there in Beirut..."

They should've just diverted to Larnaca to begin with and not gone off making up procedure as they go.

As regards being asked to pay for fuel, it happens a lot more often than some of you would care to think, though admittedly not to proper carriers like Air France. I almost got myself into a situation like that once, but we solved it before it reached that level... All in a days work...

This story is awesome. On the same level as the story of the Mexican pilot who was running a truckload of marijuana in a Cessna to the Los Angeles area.

Unfortunately for him he forgot to read his notams for the day because president Obama was flying into lax that same day and a no fly zone was up in lax airspace.

Pilot busted the boundary and fighter jets intercepted him.

He was arrested after landing and the drugs seized. Lol
