Sorry again for the double post, - ok in device manager, i have universal serial bus controllers, expanded i have standard enhanced pci to usb host controller, - standard openHCD usb to host controller, - usb root hub and finally another usb root hub - if i right click to update any of them it asks for a cd or download location, neither of which are any use to me,

If i manually search for KB822603, it wont install as i have sp2 installed - should i uninstall sp2 so its just sp1 and retry? (to add, ive always had 2 usb ports on the side of my pc that have never been used - i dont think they are connected either as they appear to not work)

Ive just updated my monitor as it had a question mark in device manager.

I was just about to post when your post just came through. i will check the crystal diskinfo just now.

Kind regards

Paul

I think you have to have Windows XP, SP3 installed. You just have SP2. You should download SP3 and install and then you can update the drivers (in fact SP3 may do that for you during the update) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389. Once you download the device driver, just unzip it (if appropriate) and click on the .exe file. It will automatically look for the ports it needs to update and update them.

Best regards,

Jim

If you have anything plugged into any USB port, you should unplug it until the port is updated. This should stop your crashes.

Hi Jim,

I cant for the life of me find where i seen i could download the driver, so i tried updating them manually from expanding usbc in device manager, and right clciking each of them and going to update driver, where each uf them is saying my driver is up to date.

It evidently will not allow the device to be updated until you upgrade XP to XP SP3. The link I provided in Post 18 provides a link to that download. Once XP is updated, then you can download and install the latest driver for your USB port.

Hi Jim,

I have installed sp3 and looking at devoce manager, and tryin to update them via windows, windows tells me the wizard could not find a better match for my hardware than what i have currently installed, and there are no question marks alongside any of the other hardware items etc.

I was also getting smaxpnp bsod's which was most likely my sound card, so ive uninstalled that and reinstalled it just to try eiminate them.

Im sure this aint the last of it/me :P .

You need to provide us with CTD info from your Event Viewer. For every crash, an 'event' is created. To learn more about the Event Viewer, click on the Start button and, then click on Help and Support. Once open, type Event Viewer in the search box. You'll receive several links about the event viewer and a link directly to your system event viewer. Once you open up Event Viewer, open up Windows Logs. Click on Application. In the middle column you'll see all the Events that occurred with Applications on your system. In the right hand column, click on Find... then type FSX. This should bring up the first FSX crash, click next and it will show you the next FSX crash. You want the latest crash. Once you find it, look in the right hand column and click on Copy and select Copy Details as Text. Then come back over here to this forum and paste the information into a new post here.

In addition, do you have the /3GB switch installed (so that FSX can use more than 2GB).

Best regards,

Jim

im trying to figure out using this search thing so ive posted a couple of screenies

Event ID 2001 - Microsoft Antimalware - This error occurs if there is a problem while trying to update definitions for the anti-malware program (Windows Defender or Microsoft Essentials). Try to update the definitions manually by downloading the full definitions files from the following link - http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/ADL.aspx. I have had problems updating antimalware definitions in the past too and I have found that going into Windows Update, download only the definitions and let Windows update install them. Reboot then go back to Windows Update and install the rest of the updates.

Event ID 5000 - MP Sample Submission is related to downloading and installing updates to Windows Defender or another Microsoft Antimalware program. Whenever you install updates, make sure you trust the installer when asked otherwise you may have problems. This is a security feature of Windows.

Event ID 474 - Database Page Cache Error - the possible solution to fixing this error is at the following link - http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-help/37155-esent-event-id-474-database-page-cache-error.html. Check out post #5.

Event 1000 - Application Errors - Those could be related to FSX crashes. You need to doubleclick on that event and it will open up and give you more info as to what crashed and why.

Hi jim, sorry its taken so long to get back to you, i was pretty overwhelmed to say the least yesterday at the amount of things i need to try sort, on top of my fsx crashes, i have deleted all my logs so i can start afresh, ive downloaded all the definition updates, from the link(although no matter how many times i try to do it via windows update, i keep getting no updates found, even trying it via the "custom" tab)

My log in is always "as administrator - and things like pmdg etc etc - i always trust the installer, if its something i want to install and never trust anything that i dont recognise - saying that i have these two logs from a microsft security

Paul,

I hope you have taken steps to get rid of the Malware on your system. Malware can bring any computer system down to its knees. It's almost as bad as a computer virus except it doesn't wipe out your HDD. Eliminating those threats may do a lot to fix the problems you are experiencing.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Yes they are out now, i left the pc on during last night to do a thorough scan and it found 2 (as posted above) then i done another scan this morning after i removed them and they aren't there anymore, - i did a malwarebytes scan the other week which didnt find anything (i temporarily disabled avg to do the mbam scan).

Most of my errors were right/left click freezes, which led me to think it was the infamous auto.dll fix, but seeing as i am on windows xp, i was assured that this was not needed.

I have decided to buy another psu just now, as i will be buying one anyway, at least i can "take it with me" i am doing a vfr flight from kk-ph just now, just trying everything possible to make it crash but so far so good, - i have posted in the fliht1 forum about correctly installing utx europe, as i have had it working before, i want to make sure i was installing it completely correctly as the default "address" was not to c/program files///fsx. although i was having these issues without utx installed.

It seems strange that this left/right click errors only started after i installed fspax(purchased i might add) and happened even without it being installed.

With so many errors i was becoming so desolate i was trying as many avenues as i could possibly think of - ie here for fsx errors even though it kind of drifted towards non-fsx errors i was being helped here with hardware and other software errors, which i thank you.

I have done the 3gb swsitch but havent got round to doing the 474 error, 1) because it seems too technical for me 2) because im trying one thing at a time then trying fsx and so on.

So i thank you for your patience with all the assistance i am getting.

Regards

Paul

Thanks Paul. That's great things are getting better. Before trying to fix the 474 error you might check your event viewer and see if the error is still happening. If you no longer see the error for today's date, it probably was fixed by something else. Take your time fixing things (except for viruses and malware!). It gets overwhelming! I have seen a lot of issues with fspax and you might check their site for an update.

Jim

Hi again Jim

I'm done with seeking help from fspax,

There were many emails back and forth between me and dan and me and flightsim store - after several months of trying to fix this, fss promised me a refund but had to seek dan for it, - dan would never answer emails, then fss wouldnt reply either, cut a long story short i did get my money back and will have a look at fscrew or something along they lines for an fspax type program.

Ive cleared all my error reports etc so if any new come in, i can get onto it straiht away and there wont be as many to sift through and it shouldn't look so daunting.

Lol speak of the devil, its sure to appear, - its just crashed this very moment....

I will post a screenie - behind the ms error reportin, there is snapper has been scrolled left to right as its been dragged from left to right monitors, - this is another issue despite trying 5 or so different drivers!!!!
