FSBuild Question

Featured Replies

Hello

A question to users of FSBuild:

I am considering to purchase FSBuild for flight planning and I was wondering how FSBuild handles start positions in FSX? Does FSBuild build a database of installed add-on airports for selection of parking spots consistant with third party add-on scenery or can this be done within FSX Flight Planner? I have run into problems in the past where I generate a flight plan using an add-on program (ie. vroute premium), load the .pln file using the FSX Flight Planner but if I change the start position FSX Flight Planner will not load the flight plan. So the question is does FSBuild have the ability to export a flight plan with third party add-on start positions into FSX?

Thanks!

It does not handle start positions. The plan will load at the active runway. I suppose you can make a plan using the fsx flight planner with your position at a gate then go in and edit the FSBuild plan and copy and paste the startup location there. I haven't tried that though.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim

Not very realistic to start on the active runway IMHO! I have been using Plan G the last while since it incorporates add-on scenery start positions into the flightplan but the FSX navdata cannot be updated. Thought this would have been addressed in the v3 release but unfortunately not the case. Therefore, I have recently upgraded to the Reality XP GPS which is far more superior than the defualt FSX GPS however you cannot import flight plans in the Reality XP units. Bummer my problem would of been solved otherwise. PMDG got it right with their FMS since it operates independently of the FSX flight planner. Still undecided if FSBuild is necessary for me?

Why do you need a flight plan to start at a gate? Starting at the runway you'll be departing followed by the subsequent way points should be fine, no? You can still load the flight to start at the gate then taxi to your runway and begin following your flight plan from there.

Agree! But it works well with products like PMDG or iFly or LevelD, etc. as you can export the FSBuild flightplan to, for instance, PMDG's flightplan folder. At startup you select the aircraft, the location and the gate of departure. Then, in the PMDG FMC you simply load the CoRoute and go fly.

Try FSCommander. You can start at a gate of your choosing.

Tom

FSBuild builds the plan, but you don't need to click yes to move your plane to the plan location.

Select your airport and gate/parking when setting up the flight.

You can load the plan before or after climbing in the cockpit.

Often I even run FSBuild from the cockpit or during loading, alignment etc

The great thing with FSBuild is that you don't even need to load the FSX plan at all - because it also creates plan in the format of most popular addons as said above

There's a little known feature in Fsbuild that's been there since FS2002 that allows you to set the gate position for each airport.

Hi Ernie

Thanks for the tip. Is this just one text file that contains data for all airports including the add-on ones? Also what is the exact syntax that needs to be typed into the column 4 entry of the text file to properly designate the parking spot?

Thanks

John
