August 26, 201213 yr Nice promo for the Katana at Aerosoft but I'm wary of the impact on framerate/fluidity of that superb canopy and the complex system modeling. I've had a not so good experience with the RA Legacy (another nice canopy) which stutters, slightly but enough to kill the pleasure of flying it, even with the low poly mdl. On the other hand, a complex aircraft like the A2A "accusimed" P-40 works well on my rig giving me solid 24 frames over payware landscape (OrbX or Pacsim) +weather and 30 in lighter situation. For those having both, would you say that the Katana is less or as demanding than the Legacy ? August 26, 201213 yr Both are newer planes...and will require a decent system... I see you're on a laptop from your specs... You'd probably notice some slowdowns since you're in the "sub-4GHz" range... in fact with turbo the fastest your CPU will go is only 3.1GHz - acceptable but I'm not surprised you're having some issues. I'd say the Katana is similar because of its HD interior... but on my machine both give me no issues. Unless I'm flying in the toughest of scenarios (ie Orbx, Weather, LOD 6.5, autogen/scenery max, max AI) I don't encounter any perceptible slow downs... I used to do payware fps tests against the default C172 ...especially when I ran my old AMD6000 rig. Some people got a little touchy about me testing their products against the stock stuff. But it worked well because it was with zero AI, minimal scenery settings, no weather, and everyone here owns the C172 hehe. I've run some recent tests and found the Legacy and Katana to run at about 60% of the fps of the stock C172 VC. It might seem bleek from your end but you've got to consider developers are pushing the limits today and most consumers are running powerful hardware... where a 40% loss wouldn't be noticeable until you hit intense scenarios like I described above. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 26, 201213 yr For those having both, would you say that the Katana is less or as demanding than the Legacy ? On my system, the Katana comes with less fps impact than the Legacy. That's with running both planes with the RXP GPS. On the stutters, can you check if it makes a difference with the GPS disabled? If you are using the tweaked default gauge that is. So, if you are up for a test, backup the current panel.cfg and comment out the GPS gauge, leading to a black spot in the VC. If the stutters are gone or noticeable less, you have your cause. Perhaps a decluttered screen achieves similar results. As said, worth a test. Now on the GPS gauges, the Katana may cause the same behaviour then, running on a tweaked default gauge too. But, apart from that, she's a smooth flyer on my rig, same for the Legacy. RXP 530 stuff makes sense for both, obviously.
August 26, 201213 yr Author Thank you both for taking the time. It will be for my next full blown rig then and not for the laptop I've to use now. It's so not much for the 20 bucks than for the frustration of having a nice plane that you can't use. Interesting benchmark you have Ryan. Will try to test the Lancair that way. It's not the GPS, thank you for the suggestion though CoolIP. I tried to comment out the engine glass gauge too, for that matter . The only way to get the Legacy totally smooth is to fly the Sahara on a clear day, no kidding  ... I suspect that rendering that nicely shaped canopy is part of the problem. For now, I will continue to fly the A2A Cub and Warhawk then. Demanding planes, at least the latter , but on the simpilot, not the computer  . BTW, I wonder whether isolating the engine simulation in Accusim and connecting it to FSX through simconnect is not why the P40 works better than the Legacy which entirely works within FSX. Just a thought. August 26, 201213 yr Good point on the A2A magic. Same as you, I can't recall any of their planes being fps heavy, even with all that detail in the systems. They should sell that knowledge!
August 26, 201213 yr The Katana 4X have almost no impact on my system It runs alot easier than all my carenado planes. Runs almost as easy as the default planes atleast on my system with Orbx, REXE and Traffic X.

August 27, 201213 yr hey, you're not "sub-4Ghz" as Ryan puts it  ! Does it run better than the 337 or the Caravan thatI i've a look on too ? Hey, I am a "sub-4GHz" guy :P. I have a Q9550 at 3.4 GHz and a NVidia 560Ti vga. The Katana runs very smooth on my system. Even better than the 337, which is also smooth enough. But the Caravan... not. My system struggles with it, especially in inclement weather or in heavier scenery (urban orbx). To the point that I prefer to fly the default FSX Caravan (modified with Bernt Stolle's FDE) than the Carenado one, for my FSEconomy flights. It's out of the hangar until I upgrade the hardware. Keep in mind that on my system the RealAir Turbine Duke and the Legacy run smooth too, though a little heavier on frames than the Katana.
August 27, 201213 yr Author Thanks , very useful , my rig grinds a little slower though. Good to know for the Caravan. The Legacy is weird on my end. I get 25 (even 30) on the upper range in an OrbX scenery with weather but after takeoff every so (too) often, the frame rate flluctuates wildly down to 11/6 a couple of times in turns (that I can understand) but also on a straight trajectory. I was very surprised on the light impact It had considering the complexety of this plane. Atleast on my system It runs better than the Carenado 337 and the Caravan.
