September 1, 201213 yr Hi folks, I wonder whether the lower mid screens information can be set on pilots discrection, or is it something the airlines have to purchase from Boeing? Regarding the Hydraulics this seems to be kind of mandatory. Regarding the brake temperature it is a safety issue to know whether a brake blocks a tyre. (What simpler indication could the pilots get? There is none, right?) Regarding the FCS the pilots might sense blocked dimensions (ailerons, elevator, side rudder), but not the spoilers (do they all extend?). If you are annoyed by too much information, you can switch off the whole screen... but if something is broken, every information is useful, is it not? Thanx in advance. September 1, 201213 yr Hi Andreas, I think expect the hydraulics everything else on that display is customers option. Either your 737 has it or not, no choice for the pilots. It can contain useful information if something is broken or not, but it costs money, and so some airlines won't buy it. It is the same for the HUD. It is useful in some situations, but you have to pay for it. John Rubens
September 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member These are options airlines have to purchase from Boeing. The vast majority seem to not have them as it's extra cost for something that's often of dubious utility to the crew. The classics didn't have this info available and they did just fine... September 2, 201213 yr I would imagine that if something is jamming up the controls the yoke wouldn't function correctly but this another reason why I like the Airbus, every system is neatly organized into its own synoptic page and all of that info is standard on the A320. September 2, 201213 yr Author These are options airlines have to purchase from Boeing. Ryan, would it be possible to provide a cost indication on such a feature (per A/C)? I would imagine that if something is jamming up the controls the yoke wouldn't function correctly With side stick the Airbus riders need the FCS synoptic pages more than than the wired Boeings...
