October 10, 201213 yr I've just installed the enb series in fsx. My question: does FSX start with ENB active, or do I need to press shift-F12 to turn it on? After pressing shift-F12 a few times, I got lost. How does one know with full certainty that enb is on? tc
October 10, 201213 yr If you have installed it correctly i.e. placed the files in the root directory where your FSX.exe is, then it usually is active at startup. Also check that you are not using DX10 as it only works on DX9 The effect is obvious at startup and when you switch it on/off. FXAA is better though IMO see this forum link... http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?/topic/387313-FSX-Realistic-Night!
October 11, 201213 yr FXAA looks like its only for NVidea cards :-( Bummer... I'm running the ATI 6990.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
October 11, 201213 yr Too much messing about with FXAA. It's very good if you have the time to play with it. I dislike the fact that you can't edit 'on-the-fly' you have to reload FSX to test every little change. It takes ages to get right. I think I'll stick with ENB as it does exactly what I need it to do. Both very useful but it's ENB for me. Blackrat
October 11, 201213 yr FXAA looks like its only for NVidea cards :-( Bummer... I'm running the ATI 6990.. Hi mate, I am using a ATI 5770 1GB and using FXAA and getting great results. One thing that a lot of people get misled about - people say "it should turn off, and you'll see the difference (eg. a comparison) in FSX, when you pause the sim".......... .......well actually, that implies that you'll be able to disable the FXAA effects when you press 'P' to pause the sim ...... but it's not! ..... it is specifically, and only the "Pause Break" key on your keyboard that toggles the FXAA on an off ..... not the 'P' pause key. Too much messing about with FXAA. It's very good if you have the time to play with it. I dislike the fact that you can't edit 'on-the-fly' you have to reload FSX to test every little change. It takes ages to get right. I think I'll stick with ENB as it does exactly what I need it to do. Both very useful but it's ENB for me. I do agree with this - my first attempt at loading FXAA, cranking up the page settings, resulted in a FSX world that resembled the moon's surface with the Sun shining on it (everything white!). But after turning off 'technicolour' and turning HDR to minimum and Bloom to one up from minimum, I now have a really nicely lit sim, that is an improvement over default. Other tips: With my ATI card, FXX only works if I untick the 'anti-alias' box in FSX's Display settings. (I then have AA set at 8x in the ATI CCC controller). Hope this helps - but it 100% does work with ATI cards. George Retired RW ATP (DHC8-1/2/3, B737-3/4/5, A320), 5240h... now permanently grounded by Diabetes. www.diabetes.org.uk
October 11, 201213 yr Does work with ATI cards, I couldn't get it to work at all at first, but after disabling AA in FSX it works perfectly and so easy to tweak on the fly. Open FSX in windowed mode, open FXAA and make an adjustment. Then toggle full screen mode in fsx then Just press 'pause/break' key to toggle FXAA on/off to see your changes. I can then go back to windowed mode in FSX and FXAA still works. I too have a beautifully lit sim and night is night for the first time. Initially with ENB it worked ok ish I tried at least 5 different versions and even those that used a separate bitmap image. But non of them gave me what I was looking for. Also it would on occasion either crash or bring everything to a standstill. FXAA rules as far as I'm concerned as it works in all modes looks amazing is easy to adjust and with my ATI card has not had an impact on FPS.
