FSAutostart - a useful tip

Featured Replies

I dunno, the program defrags the memory on startup when all of the unneeded stuff is killed so it would be nice to have the same defrag happen once all the FS related apps get killed.Personal preference I guess :)

Hi Eric,Well, I turn off all the services and programs that are listed in the help as okay to turn off. I let FSA defrag my memory, but don't have it set to force Idle Tasks to Execute (not that there's anything wrong w/that, I just haven't found it necessary). I have it set to wait 10 secs before killing an unresponsive program, then it starts my TrackIR software and weather program and then FS9. I like this new addition of being able to tell FSA not to start the main program but just to wait for a keypress before closing. That way I can do some scenery design, quit FS, then relaunch it to see changes without having to go through the whole FSA shutdown list again.I have so many controllers on my desk that I've set up multiple FS9 cfg files as well. So one, for instance, has all the joystick mappings for my FFB Stick, pedals and throttle, while another is for my yoke, pedals and throttle. A third profile is for flying multiplayer, with settings like turning on aircraft labels and limiting my frame rates and such. It's so cool that FSA allows you to then make multiple profiles, each with a different command line for FS9 specifying the different cfg files I use. Does that help at all?thanks,

Yup.. :-)Im learning how to use this. Im always in and out of the sim sometimes MULTIPLE times to check on textures or afcads or some other tweak. I would KILL for some kind of viewer to be able to view FS models in a window without launching the sim just to check texture alignments. This would be a godsend to us skinners and developers!Eric

This was with 1b6a, and when I tried it, it either kept getting confused and mixing the apps mixed around, or it used a common app, because my Nascar profile ended up loading SimCity4, Flightsim loaded Nascar at one point, depending on which profile I last "fixed".....Haven't got around to setting it back up since my last system reinstall over a month ago so I haven't tried it recently...

I decided to try this program because lately my frame rates are terrible and I can't figure why. I have not added anything lately and was getting about 20 (average) fps. Now I am lucky if I get 8-10. So I tried autostart and find that I get exactly the same fps with or without it. I take it that it usually increases fps, am I correct? I don't know what to do to get my fps back but the program did not help me. The theory sounds great and it does do what it states so anybody have an idea why it didn't help?Don

"So I tried autostart and find that I get exactly the same fps with or without it.I take it that it usually increases fps, am I correct?"No guarantee that it will increase FPS, just that it will shut down unneeded services before starting a simming session.Have you checked your system lately for spyware and other nasty stuff that might be stealing resources?Greg

Don't know whether this will help, but I would suggest before hitting the 'Start' button that you DOUBLE click your chosen custom profile and check that the name has changed in the title bar at the top of the FSAutoStart window. A single click on the selected profile will not change anything - caught me out at the beginning :(Mike

I've just noticed the change at the bottom of Ken's signature!I guess I'm getting a bit slow since 341 others have already acquired the latest update before me :-grrMike

Yes it requires a double click - maybe I should change that? It hasn't been reported as a problem....

I had posted an annoucement but it is on the second page already!

I don't have any experience with it, Eric, but have you tried Abacus' FS Painter software? I think it is supposed to do exactly what you're talking about; display a model with a particular repaint, just for the painter crowd. You might check it out if you haven't already.thanks,

HI, could you please explain in a little more detail how to do this for a not totally computer literate gook like me? Do I just type that line verbatim somewhere? Thanks, JamesJ

If you get build 7, you won't have to do anything special since I incorporated this as a feature.
