July 8, 200421 yr Hi,If you tie FSAutoStart to, say, a basic utility like 'Notepad' thus:C:WINDOWSnotepad.exe in "Path to app:", then, as long as Notepad remains open, you can play any game you want while still benefitting from the same setup you have used, and doubtless will continue to use, under the individual Profile configuration you have created for FS9.FSAutoStart will only restart Programs and Services when you decide to close Notepad. The only downside I can see is the loss of the memory defragmentation option offered by FSAutoStart when you exit one game and begin another. No obvious performance hit here, however. I can't imagine that 'Notepad' commandeers significant resources, so having it running/idling in the background while gaming seems to be no big deal.I've called the Profile "General" and "Gaming" under Description.Just another string to our bows! Try it, it works!Ken Salter has provided us with an excellent utility in FSAutoStart, all the more so because it is so flexible in the various ways we can employ it.Thanks again Ken!Mike
July 8, 200421 yr Interesting....If this is a common option for people, I can change the program to offer to not launch any app and just wait for the user to hit a key in the control program...Thoughts?
July 8, 200421 yr I had a thought: I'm still using version 2, and I would like to have AUTOSTART not restart programs until I hit a specific key. For example, when FS crashes or something, I would like to not have to wait for it to restart all the aps and then have to restart Autostart. Don't know if that can happen, but it would be nice. Thanks Ken, and once again, great utility!!!:>
July 8, 200421 yr >Interesting....>>If this is a common option for people, I can change the>program to offer to not launch any app and just wait for the>user to hit a key in the control program...>>Thoughts?I would like this feature, Ken. I tend to jump in-and-out of FS9 quite a bit, particuarly if I am trying out new scenery or whatever. I disabled the program link from FS-Autostart to avoid the frequent stop/starts of services and programs (though I did consider just loading notepad in the same fashion as recommended in this thread), but a key command or button to restart everything would be ideal.
July 8, 200421 yr Hi Ken,"I can change the program to offer to not launch any app and just wait for the user to hit a key in the control program...".......now that would make it just purrrfick! What say you others, eh?Cheers,Mike
July 8, 200421 yr Good idea! This is one of the only things short of coffee-making that would extend FSAutostart's functionality. If you could do it Ken, it would be great.thanks,
July 8, 200421 yr Okeee Dokee, if I can find time in betwixt getting my linux system running and watch Ariane related threads, I'll have something shortly! :-lol
July 9, 200421 yr I was thinking of suggesting that the path to app and the app to execute (and associated addons that it's configured to load) should be part of the profile itself so that one could have a profile for Flightsim, a profile for Nascar Racing 2003, etc etc..but that might work just as well, giving the freedom to even switch between games without having to let it reload all the services and kill them all again... So, I'd vote for a "press any key to continue" option instead of loading a program... :) Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
July 9, 200421 yr Uh, hey Mr. Cold... that's exactly how FSA works now! I've got several profiles set up to launch IL2, FS2004, etc. Do you have the latest version? It's all explained in the readme I think, but you can have what you described above already.thanks,
July 9, 200421 yr Okay, I need a couple of beta testers....please email or PM me. Should be fairly quick and then I can upload this to the libraries. Thanks,
July 9, 200421 yr Hey Ken,I think one more thing FSAS needs is to defrag the memory on shutdown of FS...that would be great :)
July 9, 200421 yr Bill, What are the typical settings you have for FSAutostart? Do you have a short list of common settings? Eric AND
