October 15, 201213 yr Hi Folks. Does anybody know why I always get the annoying message, every time I close FS9, that reads ' Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working'. I'm using Win 7 & FS2004. Thanks John
October 16, 201213 yr Does this happen when flying any of the Wilco Airbuses? If so, there's not much to do with this... October 16, 201213 yr Occurs this if you were positioned at a certain airport or at any place within FS2004 world? - I experienced this phenomenon recently at a certain airport, and I identified a bad texture of an AI plane standing there as the cause. I removed this particular AI repaint from my AI traffic and the CTDs disappeared. To rule this out, you can deactivate AI traffic (by renaming the traffic.bgl file to traffic.bgl.bak or similar) and look if CTD still occurs. Or does this happen when you are flying a certain airplane? What does the CTD message say - which module causes the CTD? Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
October 16, 201213 yr Author Thanks GeyerH it happens with any aircraft or at any airport. When I close the programme I get the fore mentioned message every time. Sorry for my ignorance, what is CTD? John
October 16, 201213 yr CTD = Crash To Desktop. This is how the message you read ("Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working") is called. October 16, 201213 yr Sorry for using that abbreviation... yes "Crash to desktop", thanks Luis Miguel for correcting my fault. By the way - you did update yor FS to v.9.1? To make another approach: Do you remember installing a certain add-on or tweaking something else within FS2004 before this phenomenon occured? If not: The usual method, I think, is to deactivate all add-on sceneries (making them inactive in the FS2004 scenery library) and the AI traffic (by renaming the traffic.bgl files). Look, if the phenomenon still occurs. If not, try to re-activate AI traffic. If the CTDs still don't occur, re-activate your addon sceneries step by step and discover, when CTD is back. To make this process more efficient, I read a superb tip by one of our forum mates (unfortunately, I forgot who it was; obviously he was able to explain it much better than I am with my rather bad English): Reactivate at first half of your add-ons and look if CTD occurs. If not, deactivate them again and reactivate the other half sceneries. If CTD occurs, deactivate "half of the half" sceneries and look for CTD again... try to find the cause for CTD by such iterating process. If your CTD message still occurs after you deactivated all add-on sceneries and AI traffic, the problem goes deeper and - so I think - beyond my knowledges about FS2004 architecture. I think that in this case some add-on has changed a stock file of FS2004, has altered a module or has made a strange entry into one of the config files. You can try to backup your fs9.cfg by renaming it and start FS2004 to let it build up a new one. If nothing helps, you may consider installing FS2004 new, although I have a bad conscience about this, as I try to prevent it with a backup of my FS2004... and a backup of the backup... and with installing every add-on within a sandbox first to find out which files it alters. October 16, 201213 yr Author Thanks Luis for that. GeyerH thanks for your advice I will try your suggestions to see if I can eliminate the problem. Much obliged. Appreciate your time. Regards John
