October 18, 201213 yr I see that Aerosoft have now made Fairbanks X, for FSX, available for FS9 as well. Is this another supplier, like Carenado, realilsing that the the FS9 market is still alive and kicking? Well done, Aerosoft! David
October 18, 201213 yr Being a little cynical Fairbanks, and Anchorage before, are produced by Sim Wings. In another recent thread it was postulated that this developer, amongst several others, were not 'pushing the envelope" insofar as latest techniques were concerned. Therefore it is easier to convert their product to FS9 standards. Bit of a slap in the face perhaps but probably verging on the truth.. I'm a little surprised that Aerosoft decided to support Fairbanks in FS9. After all it is a minor airport and demand lower as a consequence. I can only surmise such decision was influenced by the availability 'nearby' of other FS9 popular titles such as Misty Fjords, Tongass Fjords and Glacier Bay not to forget Georender's Alaska Cinematic titles. Having said all that I will buy it around Christmas when I can afford it. Too many good FS9 sceneries in the pipeline.
October 18, 201213 yr Hi. Another tangent... although leading on from comments in the posts above. I see that Playsims, the successor to Horizon Simulation, has re-released FS2004 photoscenery for the UK. It's been (confusingly) available for some time only as an appendix to the FSX photoscenery but is now republished in its own right. It seems that the continued popularity of FS9 is getting increasing notice in the commercial world. Cheers, D
October 18, 201213 yr I just had a few minutes before I rush off to work to take a quick look at Fairbanks. IT LOOKS SUPERB! Along with Aerosoft PANC (a cutting edge scenery in many ways), freeware Glacier Bay, Payware Tongass Fjords and the Alaska Cinematic photosceneries, this makes Alaska an outstanding choice for every kind of flying - from heavy metal to STOL bush ops and choppers. BTW, Fairbanks already has AES support - so it really does come "out of the box" ready to use and looks amazing Ian
October 18, 201213 yr I don't have Fairbanks, but the screenies do look pretty awesome. I have Aerosoft's Anchorage add-on and if Fairbanks is anything like it you won't be disappointed. Anchorage has a setting that gives you the ability to load up the parking ramps to either sparsely or densely populated with cargo birds. It also has an Alaskan Railroad passenger train that makes loops to and from the airport. I'm not sure what kind of extra goodies Fairbanks has with it, but the fact they're supporting FS9 with it is great news. Chris Sunseri
October 18, 201213 yr I am certain that Fairbanks has been made by the same person(s) as Anchorage and is of the same quality, though obviously it's much smaller. But it has many similarities including an adjacent seaplane and GA area with lots of very realistic static aircraft. I'm not usually a fan of static aircraft, but like PANC, these are worh keeping. And an extra is a classic propliner "boneyard" - lots of of DC6's etc in various states of disrepair/cannabalization. Very cool! It has AESLight ground traffic (butter smooth movements) and AES gate support. Very realistic road and rail movements - same as PANC. It is a gorgeous scenery - worth every penny... This is Aerosoft at their very best guys - and you get FSX and FS9 both for one price. Ian ps. If anyone wants to activate the floatplane base for AI, there is already a seperate afcad. All you need to do is add the following entry to the airports list of your favorite GA traffic file and add some floatplane traffic: FAI1,N64* 49.07',W147* 51.12',132
