DX10 and SLI- does it work?

Featured Replies

As far as I know SLI can only be use if higher resolution is needed, no perf. gained using SLI.

Has anyone tested if SLI benefits dx10 ?

Thanks!

Good morning Dandimm,

Yes I have tested SLI and it in fact does work and very well. In my system I am running two EVGA-Nvidea classified 3-GIG video ram per card and running in SLI. I also have 10-GIG of ram. I onley run one LG 27" LCD monitor even though I have four DVI connectors. If you hook up more than one monitor the 2nd, 3rd, 4th monitor will not be the same resolution as the main monitor. I know because I have already tried this setup. Also if you lined the monitors up the displays graphics will not line up correctly without bezel correction. I have checked into this with the TH2GO Digital system. I had talked to the tech over the phone and they told me they were unsure if it would work with SLI. I also received an email that coonfirmed my question that SLI was not tested with their systems. I understand this was not your question totally, I know you would eventually think about hooking up more than one monitor to your video SLI system. If you can do it, SLI deffently will help FSX. If I had it do it over again I would not hessitate! Take a look at the system setup on the left side of the screen. My monitor runs in 1920x1080x32 full screen at 35-FPS. And I run FSX in DX10 Preview, I would not have it anyway.

PS: You can run your FSX In any resolution that you choose. But, the main reason you purchase cards to run SLI, is to run FSX in a higher resolution and enjoy the fantastic graphcs. FSX needed this type of technology at the time when FSX was first desighed. DX10 tweaks has really made FSX shine and now with SLI this adds to the enjoyment.

Hello Les -

I am currently running a TH2GO digital at 3072x768 and my video card is an NVidia 580. If I get a second card, could I still use the TH2GO? I seem to have performance degradation at the larger airports (frames drop from 30 to 15) and was hoping this may help.

Thanks,

Daniel

We need to know what your system is, Daniel, and what monitor/s you have. Open up your user profile, and put the specs there, please - along with your proc speed - the overclock - not the stock speed.

A second card will expand one's solution choices, but one can easily run the TH2Go at 3840 x 1024 x 32 with the 580, and can hold 30 almost everywhere. If the proc is anywhere close to 4.6 - 7 - 8 - 9 and one cannot get this - there is something wrong with the fsx.cfg and/or the Inspector settings.

Good morning Daniel,

Good morning Daniel,

I have contacted the company that makes the TH2GO and asked them about useing their multi monitor card with my SLI setup as me like you I wanted to run 3 monitors with my SLI setup. The answear I recived was: We have not tested our system with a SLI setup, but it should work? After spending $1000.00 + for my two cards I didn't wan't to use my check book as a test station for them, so I didn't purchase the unit. Now the unit I was interestd in ws the Digital unit. I also want to say is; if you go to a SLI setup, make sure your motherboard supports two video cards; and the power supply is able to supply the power for the two video cards, this is where a lot of people fall way short. When I installed my two cards I had done some reseaarch and found that I needed a larger power supply to support the two cards. I installed a 1200W Thermatake TR2 RX which is more than enough and I have not looked back on my decission. SLI is a great match for FSX; and this is my opinion is PART along with all the tweaks is the key to a great experience in flying. I have also in my Asus control panel sellected "EXTREAME" clocking and I am now running 4.2 to 4.5mhz. I also have water cooled my system and each core is running 100 to 122F which is well in the specs of Intel. So it is more than just adding cards; their are a lot of things that you must look at before you open your checkbook. As Paul has said above and he is correct. Answeare his post and he can help you out. Me; I live on the cutting edge of technology and love it! :yahoo: so there is a lot to consider before you jump in head first.

Hi Paul - I have updated my Avsim system information - have a look. As you can see my processor is 3.4 turboboost to 3.9. I have not overclocked it. I think its a Sandy Bridge.

My Nvidia Inspector setting are set exactly as Very Bumpy's post :http://forum.avsim.net/topic/384378-hq-antialiasing-for-nvidia-cards/page__st__25#entry2465992

Thanks for the help!

Daniel

That 580 needs more data! It's hungry and it's starving!

More in a while - I have to go out for a while..

Cheers,

Hi Paul -

Do you have any more insight on my set up and performance with the 580? I agree, It should be performing better. I can send you a copy of fsx.cfg file if you wanna have a look. That is why I originally asked about SLI....

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

Sure, Daniel, attach it here as a txt file by all means - but the major impact would be made by overclocking an i7-2600K processor - and I think yours is only a 2600, without the "K" - so it's severely limited.

My best suggestion - if indeed it isn't a 2600K - is to trade/sell the proc, and spring for the other version. :(

Hello Paul -

Thanks again! I am really excited to be a dx10 convert and hope that I can get everything running as smooth as you! I'll check in on the processor and see what I can do about overclocking or replacing if that is the weak link...

Here she is, Daniel: not changed much, though one that was changed, was WideViewAspect=True: it was set to False, and I moved your TBM up to 80.

Try it: post back here if you have any queries/questions!

Thanks Paul! I will change the TBM to 80 and re-test. I have the wide aspect to false for the TH2GO otherwise the visuals appear stretched across the 3072x768 screens. Next step will be overclocking or replacing the processor.

Daniel! check my post again! I didn't attach the file!!

It's there now.
