Correct Fueling Procedures

Featured Replies

Can I get some clarification on the correct fueling procedures for the B200 from some real world pilots....

What tanks should be filled first? AUX or Main?

I am getting mixed interpretations from numerous on-line articles.

Not a RW King Air pilot (yet anyhow...) but this is from the B200 Limitations manual and backed up by Tom Clement's The King Air Book:

"Do not put any fuel into the auxiliary tanks unless the main tanks are full." (emphasis theirs)

Found on: Page 3-26

I fuel N501MS (C90) at my airport, I always fuel mains then aux.

I would imagine that is SOP, as most AUX tanks feed into MAIN tanks, or whatever tanks are closest to the fuse. Maintaining a proper Center of Gravity/Wing Balance being the key factor... It would be interesting flying with wing AUX tanks (typically in the wing tips) full and nothing in the center (or close to center), if the AUX tanks didn't feed into MAIN tanks.

The B200 and C90B seem to use the aux tanks first, I think I can remember to have read that it is a FSX limitation when thinking about this "problem" in the Milviz C310 :search:

Best regards,

RW B200 Pilot here.

Altough manual says to not put any fuel on the Aux tanks before the main, you can put a certain amount in them, just not to the top, to avoid damage to the transfer jet pump

But normal operation is always filling the Main first.

The fuel at the aux tanks is tranferred by a jet pump to the nacelle tank, wich is aft the engine.

Once I learn that a main tank of a B200 was damaged at its drain valve so it was useless, they fill the other main and aux, and fill certain amount of fuel on the aux without topping it as to avoid the limitation. this way they managed to take the king air for repair using the auxiliary fuel transfer

Sorry about the english!

Thank you Azteca. Excellent information.

That makes sense as the Kings are big enough for that kind of set up.
