Hi to all,

I bought a new PC with WIN7 64, 8GB ram, and running at 4.5GHZ CPU and 8GGB GPU. so power is not an issue.

Now after my full install, all my AI, Scenery, mesh UT, AS6 and REX overdrive with tons of add-ons, I locked my FPS to 30 and I was getting 30 all the time no issue.

Yesterday, i was flying an SGA MD95 srom SVMI - KBOS, and around KDCA I saw my sim dropped from 30 FPS to 3-4 FPS, and shut down after.

I restarted and tried to continue flight, same thing crash arround same area. So tried to go to a different area, the sim run, but now my max FPS is about 15 and when I change view in the default Cessna Aircraft it drop to 1-4 FPS, tried to go to Europe area same thing, it fluctuate from 4-5 to 15FPS but never reach again the 30.

I was thinking to re-install from scratch, but before doing that, I wanted to know if any one had an idea that would save me from a 1 week for re-install.

I have defragged my HD, and checked my registry for corruption file, with no luck. BTW my FS is under C:|FS9 not under program files for AUTH issues.

Now what would be the best Re-install if I had to, rename my folder and install new and copy over and start again 1 by 1 item.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Hani

I had the exact same experience with my new PC. The solution was:

1. Fix all my AI files. Did you transfer over old AI files from your previous system? If you did, that's probably a major culprit and I can help you fix it so will wait to read your response. In my case, KDCA went from major stuttering and low FPS in the teens to perfect fluidity and FPS in the 60's by fixing this one issue.

2. I assumed that the "default" settings for my new video card would be more or less optimal. Wrong! Once I learned to configure my video card correctly, there was a huge improvement.

I spend probably hundreds of frustrating hours trying to solve this. These two things were the issue and now they are solved, I have been in FS heaven with amazing graphics rendered with perfect fluidity in any setting - max AI, complex weather, complex addon sceneries...

I tried every other solution that many good folks on here suggested - none made any real difference but those two above, completely fixed the problem I was having

Cheers

Hi Ian/Hani

Sorry to hijack the thread guys, could you let me know what you did to the AI you transferred over please, I too have lowish Frame rates and just wondered if your tip could help.

Hi Ian and Nic,

Thanks for getting back to me,

Yes I did transfer tons of AI over, however I did run a program called DXTalpha fixer or something like that and actually it was one of your thread that said about it it and it is pinned on top. The difference you where at 35 and went to 70 where for me I went from 30 to 4-5. That program was looking to fix all the alpha Chanel missing, and improved my FPS. also I use the ACA2007 and ACA 2005 to check on error with aircraft, and I have a clean folder as per the results.

Also I tweaked my graphic card set-up it's not the default, I have used the ATI catalysis as I have an ATI card, and adjust the AA and all the other items, and I have the perfect pictures, but all this is still on except the FPS is too low as I said.

My problem is that day I did a first flight and all was 100% super, then I installed the SGA DC95 from the library, and I started a seconf flight and worked like a charm, until I reached the DCA area, and all went caput :( . I used that settings for over a month or so with no issue at all. :(

So Ian what is your solution please :)

Hi Walouigi

You mayhave to delete the FS9.CFG file and Allow FS9 too regenirate a new one, Once the CFG file is regenerated apply the tweaks. Its possible that by flying over that area some values may have changed on your FS9.CFG File causing the frames to drop.

Also Try applying these values to the FS9.CFG file, I have a much less Powerful system then you and my sim is really smooth (Be sure to back up the re-genirated CFG file before applying these values in case they dont work for you) Let me know how things go B)

The values on the Clouds are a bit high you can re ajust them in the sim if it sutters, doesnt stutter on mines with them maxed out ;-) Add this line under your scenery Colom in the FS9.CFG FSM_TweakMode=VFR as shown below.

Intel core 2 duo E7500 2.93GHZ

Intel Board DG43GT

Ati RADEON 6750 1GB Pci Express card

8GB DDR2

As you can see my system is not that powerful and i can assure you my sim runs great. If all fails RE-Install FS9 Once you re-install try those values above. then start adding your Addons. Be sure to defragment your drive afterwards. I recommend O&O defrag.

http://www.oo-software.com/en/products/oodefrag (You can get it free through a torrent site if your into that)

Be sure to select complete defrag from the drop-down list. Also if you decide to RE-Install Fs9 it really does help to install it in a separate root directory. C:/FS9

Simply run a custom Install and direct it to that folder (It helped me allot) I think it access the files much faster during gameplay and enhances performance considering it doesn't have to go through alot og Sub directories to access the files (i could be wrong but i can assure you my sim runs wonderful) Be sure to also re-run the DXTbFX For missing alpha channels.

Thank you very much GarciamK4,

i have deleted my cfg and got FS9 to rebuild, with no luck.

But as you said if I don't have any other option, I will reinstall and try to use your cfg number and see.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Best regards

Hani

Hi Hani

That AI is almost certainly your problem. Easy way to check.

1. If you turn off the AI, does your FPS go up to where you would expect them to be? (In the 60's for most addons, over a hundred for default in the case of my system)

2. If the answer is yes, then the next thing you can try is download MyTraffic 2006 V2.4 which is now freeware. Rename your aircraft, addon scenery/scenery and scenery/world/scenery files so they are not active and are safe, and then create empty folders for each of them except the aircraft folder where you will need to have the default Cessna or the sim won't start.

Run MyTraffic and then try a saved flight at a really busy airport where you have been getting terrible frame rates. Turn traffic to 100%. If my guess is correct, you will be amazed that even with extremely dense traffic, your FPS will be high. In my case the first flight I tried when I did this was FSDT KDFW and I went from FPS in the teens to the 60's, even though that huge airport was packed with AI... (My thanks to Appliance who suggested this to me and saved my sanity!) That will confirm that the problem is your AI files.

If your situation is the same that I had, the problem is that among all those AI files you transferred over are several that have missing aircraft. What happens is that when you are in an area with dense traffic, the system is frantically cycling through the files trying to find aircraft that are in your traffic file but are no longer in your installation. And so the sim starts stuttering and the FPS plunges.

What I ended up doing, after MyTraffic proved to me that it had nothing to do with my system, was go through all my AI traffic files one by one. I decompiled them using TTools and then used my AI program (YRoute) to check them. When it showed missing aircraft I replaced them until the AI file showed no missing aircraft and then recompiled them. Now that they are all "clean" files, I am getting FPS in the 60's even in places where the traffic is very dense, like the New York area or London. And I have a huge number of AI files, from WoAI, AIG, MAIW and ones I have created myself....

So check out turning off AI. If the problem is the same as I had, no tweaks or .cfg changes or anything else will solve it. You will have to either delete all your AI traffic and download them fresh from WoAI, MAIW etc or check them all individually and fix them.

The good news is that once it's all done, you will experience FS at its absolute best...

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Ian

Thanks Ian, i am traveling away from home now, and will be back next week.

I will try yiur suggestion and report back.

My concern is after the move i had my sim 100% for almost 2 month, and sudden collapse.

But i will try that .

Thanks a million

Hani

Hi Hani

If it was working okay then maybe it isn't the same problem I had after all. But just turning off the AI and seeing what happens is quick check and might point you in that directioin

Good luck with it when you get home

Ian

G'day Hani.

Have you by any chance used Task Manager to identify any new processes running or ones which are consuming too many cpu cycles?

Have you considered using Filemon/Process Explorer to check on events which may be slowing FlightSim down?

Have you recently installed any scenery, aircraft, modules, NavData or Windows/system/utility updates?

If you fly using internet-supplied real weather try turning it off and use FS generated weather instead.

Finally, turn off ALL allowable processes via a program such as 'EndItAll', turn off all anti-malware, anti-virus programs, disconnect the internet, joystick, speakers/headphones, TrackIr etc. In other words run BARE BONES.

Delete default flight file, FS9 cfg and scenery cfg files (after first backing them up). Remove FSUIPC from Modules folder. Turn off AI. Set frames - unlimited.

Start Cessna at active runway, KSEA ... select midday, mid-summer. Any difference?

Should be running at 60 fps with fast texture loading after initial 360 degree spot view rotation.

Trust me ... anything is better than a re-install.

Yes I did the task manager and did not notice anything that i am not used to see. I use enditall, and i use game booster toturn off everything in the back ground.

That day i have installed the SGA md95 and i was flying with it when that happend, i am not sure if that plane is the reason fo all that.

I did remove my cfg, and let the sim load at default SEA, with the Cessna, with no luck, i tried with fresh no weather at all, didn't work neither.

So i tried everything you guys have mentioned, that's why at that point i said it's better just reinstall.

Thanks so much for all your idea's it is really heped me, but unfortunatly it is not working for me.

Will report back when i get home.

Hi Walouigi

I am going to be totally honest with you my computer as I said before isn't that strong and I've been where you are I'm not sure if this the same issue but I know that I've had a really good performance 1 day and the other well it gets a lot worse than at times I've been getting good performance for maybe a few days and then again the stutters come back.

Anyways to get to the point I finally gave up, I said to myself ,(you know what I'm going to just uninstall everything and I am going to categorize myself and focus, So 1 day I completely reformat it my external drive completely wiped it out with killdisk and reinstalled flight simulator 2004 on that external drive. D:/FS9 to cut a long story short I did a fresh complete installation of FS 2004 on a freshly formated external hard drive

After I installed flight simulator 2004 before installing the addons I defragment the drive , followed by a reboot then i added my add-ons excetera excetera and defragmented again. After all of the hard work and all of the reinstallation defragmentation I must tell you my simulation runs extremely smooth. I am also using a free utility named 3d analyzer

My point is if you have a fast external hard drive install FS 9 on the external hard drive ,once you've defragment it start adding your scenery add-ons your modules like FSUIPC your utilities as in FS navigate once you do all of that defragment again. be sure to install everything via administrator

If you wish to know the Add-ons that I'm running on my FS 2004 I'll be more than glad to make you a list just let me know
