Is there a plane out there with RNAV in the stack?

Featured Replies

Just come across this in a real world plane. For those who don't know what it does, RNAV is a clever computer which takes actual VOR/DME information, and creates virtual VORS to make flying direct to a location a lot easier/safer.Not come across it so far. Anyone know if it has been implemented anywhere?

Hi,how has it been used in the aircraft? Has the device been coupled to the CDI and DME? Has it been the RNP-0.3 system I have been wondering about for ages? Details, details... :-)If I need to define a radial/distance to VOR fix in a GA aircraft, I use the waypoint page of my GNS 530 to create a user waypoint. It is also possible to move the map cursor to any location on the map to create a user waypoint. In addition to the coordinates of the point, two VOR references are created automatically to define the new fix. Coupled to the HSI, FD and/or AP, the GNS 530 may offer what you were looking for - although it

UweR,I think I have misled you. RNAV is old, pre GPS, technology. If you prefer GPSs then I wouldn't bother with it. If, on the other hand, you fancy something in between old fashioned Radio Nav and GPS, then this may be of interest.A good, quick explanation of RNAV (aRea NAVigation) can be found here in section B:http://www.allstar.fiu.edu/aero/RNAV.htmThe kit that I found in the real world C172 was called an Narco NS800. That and it's Bendix King alternative, look alike, and probably perform alike.Richard

As far as I am aware, RNAV cannot be modelled in FS at this time.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP FleetDC-3 Airwayshttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

how so? i thought we have all the info we need for RNAV, just need a gauge to process it, no?

i'm pretty sure i've seen the narco RNAV somewhere. it may have been old, but it was there... hold on...yup... check out http://www.dnauk.co.uk/... i think this gentleman modelled the ns800 once, ages ago... hold on one more sec...bingo! http://www.simviation.com/fsgauges4.htm. old as hell but still there... :)

Good work Sherlock :)OK so we have the stack, did anybody use them in a plane? I can see modeling the functionality could be quite a 'mare. Still one can only hope...

>Not come across it so far. Anyone know if it has been>implemented anywhere? The ICAO definition of RNAV is:A method of navigation which permits aircraft operation on any desired flight path within the coverage of the station-referenced navigation aids or within the limit of the capability of self-contained aids, or a combination of these.Phew...!Thus RNAV does not only apply to the basic system you describe - all modern navigation systems (INS, IRS, GPS) are also examples of RNAV systems. So to answer your question, RNAV can be found in many variations in FS, but as far as I know not the kind you are looking for.Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

I am sure he is looking for this kind (kns80)-which I am also looking for (wishing for) along with a kln-94, Terra tri nav digital vor, century IV autopilot with flight director, pma6000 audio panel, ky196 reciever, kt76 transponder, stormscope, and mac radio-all in my "new" aircrafts panel.I still wish for all the reality in outside aircraft views in fs, that there were more real world instruments that you find in common aircraft. Seems like the inside view ought to have the same amount of reality :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/84769.jpg

Agreed GeofA,If it's the display below the GPS you are talking about, that looks just like the sort of thing I am looking for.As an aside, looks like a nicely kitted out older twin. What is it? :)

Hi Geof,Some of our club's C172SP's have the KLN94 and MFD installed. You really get to depend on that glass after a while. Too bad that my CFII "fails" the thing when we're doing approaches :)Nice plane! Are you bringing her to Denver in September? :)Bruce.

I developed a RNAV-gauge in xml a while ago. As it was done as an professional assignment I cannot supply you the source, sorry...It took some time, but it's not very difficult in any way. You just have to brush up your knowledge in trigonometry ; D

Interesting resurrection of an old post. I did quite a bit of research into a RNAV gauge a few years ago. Basically no-one wanted to put the time needed into programming it for what they felt to be such a limited audience. We have since seen developers think outside the box and produce dual ADF systems (FS doesn't support dual ADF's) and even more impressive a four course radio range simulation that I hope to see completed at least for the entire US. The MAAM RD-4 has the graphical representation of an older RNAV gauge in the panel but non-functional and they also didn't feel enough interest was there to make it work. Alas David Newby & Assoc. Narco gauge is a mystery, I have never seen a post of someone that has the gauge and can report how well it works and it was designed for FS2000. I still put the challenge out there for a good working KNS80/81 simulation cause that is what is fitted to a lot of aircraft out there and it is certainly interesting to use.
