August 8, 200619 yr I still use RNAV in my 1969 Reims Cessna 172 as shown in the pic. It is a Narco NS800 and very functional, I don't have a GPS system so navigate by pilotage and using the RNAV as a backup. IMHO GPS takes the fun out of planning a route and flying the calculated heading to achieve the desired track. Give me a map a compass and a stopwatch and I am happy!(I know the above comment will prove contentious to many GPS acolytes). Therefore I would like to add my support to the development of an RNAV guage in FS2004, I would most definately use it!Chrishttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153606.jpg

August 8, 200619 yr IMHO GPS takes the fun out of planning a route and>flying the calculated heading to achieve the desired track.>Give me a map a compass and a stopwatch and I am happy!>In the homebuilt/experimental market, half the fun is installing the new high tech solid state gyro auto-pilots connected to the GPS, which provides heading information. And of course the GPS must have a colored moving map that depicts restricted airspace, terrain, obstacles, and preferably up linked satellite weather. But then I've been a moving map GPS "fanatic" since the early ninety's. Most of my thoughts regarding GPS and it's terrain functions have to do with increased safety with flight in mountainous terrain. Just too many flight into rising terrain accidents over the years. We average three a year around here.GPS is now to the point, that we have depected 3D terrain from a cockpit view, just like flight simulator. This will go along way in reducing IMC/rising terrain accidents. To me, this type of high tech is fun!L.Adamson
April 23, 201313 yr While this is an old thread I felt it worthwhile responding. I was the developer of the NARCO gauges for FS2000 which incorporated the NS 800 RNAV and which I originally developed to be able to replicate the full panel in my own plane. THIS is of course why one would wan an RNAV in FS. Way back then I sold a handful of copies. I have only recently upgraded my FS installation to FSX and have therefore developed FSX versions of those original gauges but now the full set includes: CP 136 M audio panel COM 810 radios (COM1 and COM2) NS 800 RNAV (functions more reliably than the old FS2000 version) NAV 824 (NAV1 and NAV2) DME 890 (configured as NAV2) ADF 841 (ADF1 and timer functionality) AT 150 I have also developed the HSI 100 for use with the NS 800 (in addition to the ID 825), I have also developed the ADF 101 NDB indicator gauge for use with the ADF 841 radio. I am in the final stages of testing / debugging all of these. I was considering making these available for a small fee, I can be contacted at fsx at dnauk.co.uk (just change that to a proper email address and you will get me). Regards, David Newby

April 24, 201313 yr Hi Ryan, I haven't used Navigraph and so I am not familiar with it's functionality. Our RNAV doesn't modify any A: or P: variables, I do know that some developers have tried to develop RNAV gauges and directly modified A: variables to display output on standard FS indicator gauges. Our radio has it's own internal set of variables for bearing, distance, course deviation etc when in RNAV mode. These are in turn used by our custom Narco HSI and VOR indicator gauges. As a result our RNAV will not affect operation of other software using the standard FS A: and P: variables. If your question is related to whether the "Virtual" VORs created and used by the NS 800 will show up in third party add-ons, then the answer is no, they won't, they are not created as GPS waypoints but purely an internal NS 800 feature. Whilst one could simulate an RNAV by utilising the built in FS GPS functionality, ours doesn't - it does actually work using exactly the same principles as the original Narco NS 800/801 or Bendix King KNS80/81 solely using VOR beacon output and therefore has exactly the same limitations. Kind regards, David.
